I have a friend who has one of these for sale, and while I don't have serial #, condition, etc. yet, I can't locate anything on Sweet Sixteens with the "Ranger" designation. Anybody have any info. on them/

The only thing I can recall with the Ranger name are Sears shotguns. Maybe a Stevens 720 sold through Sears?

Yep!
I don't think the word "Ranger" has ever had anything at all to do with a Browning Sweet-16.
Leastwise, I have never heard of one so named.

Browning never had a A5 with a "ranger designation", especially a sweet sixteen. The only designations the A5 sixteens had was standard and sweet. It could be a special edition engraving or run of guns like ducks unlimited or something else along that lines or an aftermarket barrel. See if you can get a picture and post it, I would like to see it. Send me a PM with an email address and I can send you a better serial number guide than is on the browning site, theirs is missing alot of information.
