I see a couple of very recent 870 threads, but I didn't want to hijack. What are the main differences between these two guns? I know the police has a metal trigger plate instead of the cheap plastic one on the express. I also know that I can get a metal police trigger guard from midway to replace the cheap one on the express.
So, other than that, what is the difference? I did a search and couldn't find it spelled out anywhere.

I carry a newer 870P manufactured with the plastic trigger guard almost daily in rugged mountain terrain.
Slips and falls on the rocky trails are hardly uncommon and I think the plastic trigger guard is actually tougher and more impact resistant than the metal one. I wouldn't dream of changing it.

The 870 trigger guards are nothing like true "carbon fiber". Carbon fiber is strong, but brittle, and wouldn't do so well in a trigger guard I think.
The plastic 870 trigger guards are pretty damn strong, and I'd bet that they'd flex, a bit, long before the compressed junk metal trigger guards snapped.
I still prefer the metal trigger guard.
