Anyone CCW a fullsize service pistol like a Beretta or 1911, or one of those long slide pistols like the Glock 34 or USP Experts OWB? Any tips?

Tips: High and tight with good holster/belt. For me its 4 o'clock strong, 8 o'clock weak. 1911 5" ,3" or 4" K frames, BHP
Tho' I tend to carry more IWB nowadays...1911 5" , K frame 3" , BHP, good gear- same position.
Ticket is good gear, dress around guns.

I carry my 1911 in a pancake holster often. I can only do it when I'm willing to wear an untucked button down shirt or a sport coat though. As long as you are free to dress casual, I wear an T-shirt or Tank tucked in and an button down shirt open and untucked...It still looks neat. Since I do not wear T-shirts untucked I find OWB to be equally easy to conceal as IWB.

I do IWB 90% of the time. Shirt tucked in.
But I do use a Kimber Polymer in a Rosen pancake when I'm out and about where I can wear a concealing garment. I find that FBI cant helps on the bigger guns as it holds the grip in tight to your body, and the muzzle doesn't stick down as far.
Make sure your concealing garment is long enough.

Only if I'm wearing a jacket.
IWB the rest of the time.

I ordered a Blade-Tech forward cant belt slide...not sure if it's a high ride or not. Will be wearing with a Wilderness 1.75" belt for added tacticality...I guess it'll be holding it in pretty snug. Not as gamey as my Wilson holster but I plan on competing with this rig as well :uhoh:
My problem is the tip sticking out or the garments riding up...any advice on those? Sometimes I'm glad I have an IWB for more margin for error. My buddy says OWB is fine as long as you watch your movement.

I carry a 1911 5" in a G&G 3 slot pancake a lot of the time.
It prints a little with a tighter fitting shirt but not too bad.

GOOD leather -- both BELT and holster -- and I am able to carry/conceal full-size 1911A1s, CZ 75B, H&K USP, Sigs (P220/226), and MANY four- and five-inch barrel revolvers (Smith N Frames, as an example).

Full size 1911 with a quality IWB holster, slightly fuller shirt. I didn't think the belt was that important.....I was wrong.

5" 1911 in a pancake here. Pacific NW is colder than most, so I can get away with it. I will be getting an IWB for the month or so long summer we get up here. Desantis Inner Piece Thumb Break (http://www.desantisholster.com/098.html)

Glock 17, in an FBI cant strongside OWB holster, made by Sidearmor. I only carry this in this fashion if I can wear a jacket or other cover garment, like a large sweater, it only really works when you can cover appropriately (rarely in the summer in GA, but fall is coming soon!).

My favorite OWB is Kramer's horsehide Belt Scabbard. I carry either a Gov't or Commander size easily. Brings it in snug and is indestructable. They're so well-formed and rigid I've often called them "Nature's Kydex"!

Although I seldom use anything other than an IWB when I do carry OWB I use a Sparks 55BN or Alessi/BCP ACP. For a 5” 1911 both work very well and are concealable, comfortable, fast, and do a good job of keeping the gun out of the way.

SA 1911-A1 carried in a Kramer Belt Scabbard. It hides well under a loose T-shirt!! Or at least it did the one time I have tried it...last week!! :D

I wear out photographers vests faster than a pair of sneakers.
They may scream "CCW" to those in the know, but around here that's a pretty low percentage.
I wear the same concealment vest in the hottest of weather, which is no fun on 90+ degree days, but it's a compromise I'm willing to make.
IMO the Glock 17 is a compact pistol and therefore serves me just fine as a summertime gun.

SA MilSpec Govt in a high ride pancake during the cooler months when I can cover it easily. Otherwise, my SA Champion IWB.

I have a holster for my 6" .45, but don't carry it because it it reliability challenged. I have carried GM, USP and large frame revolvers. Good leather and careful clothing choices. Wear your gun to your your tailer's or local uniform shop that does alterations; they have some tricks that can help too.

warm: G22 in a Tucker Texas Heritage IWB
cold: G22 in a Fobus paddle, or Ruger P90 in a Hume JIT slide under a polar fleece, sweater, or jacket.
I don't own any compact pistols. And I'm not a big guy.

For the problems you've described the only real solution is to wear an outer garment that is long enough to avoid letting the tip show. As to clothing riding up, stick with slightly loser fitting stuff that has a good drape to it. Your typical bomber jacket with the elastic waist is not a good idea in general. Parkas are better. If you like to wear the former type, than stick with the IWB. Those are the tradeoffs.

When I get my CHL in a couple of months, I'm going to try to carry, at least in Winter, a full-size 1911.
Still working on the summer carry problem...

Sometimes I CCW with the following (not all at the same time):
CZ75B, pancake holster @ 4 o'clock
SA MilSpec 1911A, same as above
Glock 21, same as above
Beretta 92FS, same as above
Ruger P95, same as above
Of all, the two most comfortable are the CZ75B and the SA Milspec.
