My buddy just picked up a rmeington 870 HD with a knox stock in 20 guage it says 2 /34 or 3... So it will only accept those you wouldn't be able to use a light target load 2 1/2 dram 7/8 oz shot 7/12 shot???

Yes you can! The only load you wouldn't want to fire in it is a 3 1/2". Anything shorter will not damage the gun. It will burn them as fast as you can feed them.

Wrong. Those are the maximum length shells it will accept; 2-3/4" or 3". Dram equivalents have nothing to do with those numbers. Any factory load in those lengths should be safe.

As stated, that's shell length, not dram eq. You'll be fine.

Virginian, what was wrong with my post. I'm learning also. I thought any load 3" or less would be OK in the 3" chamber.

The "2-1/2 Dram" is a type of powder measure.
The "Dram Equivalent" tells you roughly how much power the shell has...it should give about the same muzzle velocity as a shell loaded with 2-1/2 Drams of black powder.

RetiredLawman - nothing was wrong with your post. You were right on. I was answering the original poster, didn't see your post at all at that time.
