Photos from the hunt...

Here are some photos from my deer hunting this year. One is of the nine point I took Dec 1 and another is of the cull buck I took this past Sunday. Then I have included 3 other photos of some bucks I saw after I had already taken my nine pointer. One has better mass but is a young buck that needs another year or two to grow. The other is an older Buck and is nice but his spread is not near as wide as the one I took. He does have a higher rack though. They are both pretty nice bucks. And then last but not least is a photo of the high racked nine point that looks more like a painting than a photo that I thought was pretty good.

Hope you all enjoy.

Wow, those are some nice looking bucks. That one in the 2nd pic is a beast!

Gratz, looks like management has paid off in your area.

Gotta love the Pic of the deer sensing he's being watched. Always irritates when they look but never would give you a good shot.

In order to get that pic I put the horns together in the stand and then when he looked back took the photo. He never moved anything but his head...then went back to eating the corn.

You must have a damn nice camera. Some of the detail in those pictures is amazing. Beautiful deer by the way.

The bucks in the 3rd and 4th photo were both taken this past season! AGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Someone on the lease shot the one in the 4th photo and then this past weekend while I was walking the lease I found the buck in the 3rd photo on the ground with just his spine and head left. He still had atlers but the coyotes had ate the meat and the ants had ate the eyes out.

Boy you talk about being disappointed. I had let that one walk because he was a pretty young buck. Oh well.

Mason, This was my first year on the lease. It was a lot of fun. My nephew saw a 12 point Saturday.

Nice bucks, you see nothing like that around here. But that feeder, or whatever it is, is quite illegal around here, and would cost you fine, jail time and loss of hunting license probably for life.

Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on what you prefer, using feeders here in Texas is legal. Would I prefer to not use them and still hunt? YES! But unfortunately unless you are pretty wealthy you can not afford to hunt like that here. In order to do so you really need enough land and that to me means around 2000 acres.

Most of the guys I talk to would much prefer not using feeders but due to the issues above this is not realistic.

Also currently where I hunt there is a pretty bad drought and frankly if we, the hunters on the lease, were not feeding these animals they would die off. There just has not been enough rain for the anything to grow. Even the cattle is starting to look a little poor.

So the big advantage to me is that during times like these we can assist the deer by providing food that will sustain them in the current conditions

I did not mention that this past weekend while hunting spikes and does with my nephew we saw a real nice 8 point...well a 7 point that had a broken g2 and then later we saw a giant with a spread well over 20 inches. Then we seperated and I went to hunt one stand while leaving my nephew at another stand. After the hunt he was almost shaking when he told me about seeing a 12 point that come to one of the feeders he was hunting. He said it was the biggest buck he had ever seen and said he had a wider spread than the one we had seen earlier. To say the least I think he had a great time hunting this past weekend. The only thing that would have made it better would have been him being able to shoot that 12 pointer.

Here is a photo of the 8/7 pointer we saw Saturday morning.
