I had asked about this gun I own, it is in 32 Caliber, unfired with box and original
Colt target, DOB 1940.
I was pointed to a place called Cherry's by another member. They are offering what appears to be the identical gun for $1250.00 no box or target.
I am wondering if anyone has a thought about why these fine old target Colt 32
revolvers sell for under $1500.00 while a Smith Model 16 in 32 caliber can rarely be found under $2000.00 Interesting to me at least since I have been told Colt made less
than a thousand and Smith made about 3500.
Well, I am off to Cherry's I would love to keep mine pristine and buy their gun to shoot !

At a recent auction (www.armsbid.com) an ordinary but like-new Official Police made during the middle 1930's went for $1,350, while a similar O.M. .32 was between $800 and $900 when they dropped the hammer. This makes no sense at all, and I believe the answer might be that relatively few people know how rare the O.M. 32 is, or they simply aren't interested in .32 revolvers. I am delighted at such attitudes because I am interested in .32's.

In another instance a friend picked up a near-mint .38 O.M. from the mid-30's for $400, and he was the only bidder. Again I credit this to ignorence on the part of others.

It would seem that these days there is little interest in .38 Special revolvers unless they are snubbies. There are exceptions - Smith & Wesson models 10 and 15 with 4" barrels come to mind. But there is even less interest in .32's because they are apparently unfit to take to a gunfight. Since you have a .32 O.M. I'd say you should keep and enjoy it. As revolvers go there isn't anything finer.

Old Fuff: I, too am very fond of 32 cal revolvers. Just last week I purchased a Colt Police Positive, 5", 32 on the PP 38 frame. 90/95%, I am in love, it goes with my other Colt 32's and 32-20's. And yes the Colts are cheaper at the present and I'm happy with that. I am eyeing a OMM in 38 that seems original at 95% except for the grips. Love all over, warm fuzzy.

Yes, yes I know! But we must keep this knowledge away from the... ordinary people. Should those who are now blissfully ignorent and only think of gunfighting find out about what we know - that shooting can actually be done for fun... well I shudder to think of the consequences... :eek:

I have worked long and hard to convince them that flyweight revolvers chambered in .357 Magnum is the only way too go. Following my advise they soon are in such pain that they give up revolver shooting altogether. They quickly switch to plastic frame/high cap pistols and are content.

Under no circumstance should we do anything to changes their minds. :evil: :D
