Gun BuyBack Alert Lakeland, FL

I've read a few thread here and on other sites like this and wanted to post this so if anyone wanted to try and be present. I plan on going for a short time but I don't have the finances at present to attempt to talk anyone who may show up to trade for something other than the $50 gift card they are offering.

This one is being done by the Lakeland Police Department in Lakeland FL. This is the first time they've ever done something like this. A little background on the impitous for the event is a mother who lost her son due to a firearm that was hidden in the house by the late husband who died of Leukemia years before. It was not properly stored or secured and easily accessible by her teen aged son. He apparently brought it out to show to friends and was shot inthe stomach and killed 15 years ago.

Here's a link. I'm still trying to find the article from the local paper that gave all the details on the mother who's sponsoring the event

Not a FL resident, so I can't do it! who knows what someone ignorant to true values of firearms will take, that they found in Grandpa's stuff. Or Old lady finding in her late husband's stuff... Might be a real treasure find in that line! Bittersweet, that we don't do silly buybacks here in SC ;)

I think your local pro gun organizers should go there.

If they decide to do something like this near me Im thinking we could go there with signs that say stuff like:

"this is how they are gonna take your guns"

or simply

"do not give them your 2A right"

or maybe

"Hell, Ill buy your guns over here"

"Hell, Ill buy your guns over here"

couldnt stop laughing LOL
reminds me of the old car sales commercials, "We'll even give you a free toaster!"

I can see it now. Your there with 60 bucks and a toaster trying to buy guns...

I know a few LEOs with LPD and find it a little difficult to believe that those guys would be the ones out instigating. Granted, I didn't get out there to see it for myself like I had hoped to but I just saw a news report that did say they ran out of the $20,000.00's worth of gift cards within about 2 hours. It looked like they were doing this as more of a drive up/ drive by turn in than a walk up stand in line buy back. Channel 13(wtvt) made it sound like the buy back was successful more due to the bad economy at Christmas time than a real reason to get rid of unwanted firearms.

Here's a link to their report.

Just waatched the news story on the FOX link:cuss::cuss:

Are you friggin kidding me, oh the econamy, They showed a man who turned in 4 rifles and got $200 in Walmart money and how it will help with christmas.

How about taking those same rifles to the Lakeland gun show and get a $1000 in cash or more.
