Does it have play with the magazine cap tightened all the way down?

The magazine cap is tightened actually I can't even loosen it up with my hand and the extension also sways side to side about a half inch "the gun is in stock configuration never been shot a 870 home defense 7 shot" .

With the magazine cap snug, I don't think you should have any play in either direction, either twisting or side to side. The barrel on my 870 lines up pretty snug sliding into the receiver, and that's the way I would think it should be. All my 1100s are the same way.

It sounds like the gun is not properly (or completely) assembled.

don't shoot it- something is not right.
Mine is 25 years old and has had a truckload of shots fired thru it and nothing wiggles but the forearm/slide. The mag tube and/or extension should not have movement at all.

It's just the extension I took it to the shop and the guys took it apart and gave it a run down said everything looked fine and We checked a couple more of the 870's there the Home defense ones and seems like they all had a little bit of play at the end of the extension past the cap.

Just would like to let you guys know i took it on a camping trip this weekend along with my buddies 870 20 guage 7 shot knoxx and they both performed GREAT and it was 23 degrees and snowing all weekend... The only problem I had was with the winchester bulk I got from wally world every couple shells didnt want to eject seemed like they maybe expanded and it wouldn't pump??? any reason for this?

cheap metal used in the rim, avoid them.

Hmmm I thought maybe it had somthing to do with the weather but makes sense. Besides that it functioned just fine fed the federal rounds i had just fine.

I had a similar problem with them in my wifes shotgun. They kept snagging on the carrier, locking up the gun. never tried them in my 870 though, I have learned, stick with brass.;)
