Is the Glock 17 the greatest handgun since the Colt 1911? Discuss amonst yourselves.:) I own both and think the Glock triumphs above the Colt.:D

I believe the 1911 is a classic design, and favored by many for many reasons. The Glock is also a tough reliable design. Neither is perfection. I own neither, have owned both, and find the 1911 SA design and single stack mag don't work for me as a defensive sidearm. The Glock is a high capacity poly framed sidearm with a trigger system that is, in my humble opinion, not quite safe for the untrained or partially trained. Yes, Grock and Slabside owners, I believe your sidearms are experts only guns. :) The Glock frame does not fit me at all, even though I qualify Expert or Distinguished Expert every year at work with one.
What is the perfect sidearm????

Ok, I couldn't help it, sorry. :)

I wouldn't feel underarmed or poorly armed with either a 1911 or a Glock, just not my personal choice.

Well, IMO the full size Glock grip angle sucks big time. The sub compacts however I really like. I love my G30 and it's scary accurate. I also absolutely love my 1911's. And my CZ. And my S&W 3904. and my KT................... well you get the idea. :)
The perfect gun is a myth. There is no such animal. At least I hope not, because then what excuse could I give She Who Must Be Obeyed for buying new pistols?

I have to agree with sniper7369. I really can't stand the way the glock's feel. They just don't sit well in my hand. I've shot both and I just like the 1911 feel a lot more.

Which is better? Pretty much impossible to say. If you spend enough money on either you will eventually end up with the same thing: a reliable and durable firearm that shoots a caliber you want. After that it comes down to personal preference and feel of the gun to the person using it.

However, that being said, there are more perfect firearms than a Glock or a standard colt/springfield/kimber/whatever style 1911 IMO.

Absolutely, the Mossberg 590 is the best handgun by Ruger to date. The next round of Guinness is on the house also, right?

Shameless post-count participation? No sir, not me....
