Yep, that's the question. :)

Wanting a longslide (6"+ bbl, or at least 5.5"), in .45 acp, with a capacity of 12+1 or more, without breaking the bank (i.e. STI). Anything besides the XD and 24/7? Any aluminum or steel framed guns fit this criteria?

I am pretty sure that EAA Witness makes a 45 Long Slide. Not sure the magazine capacity. I think for your price range an XD would be the way to go.

Oh, right:

http://www.eaacorp.com/handguns-hunting-pistols-hunter-TP.html

but MSRP is $1,000, so street price probably $800 or so. The 10mm holds 15 and the .45 holds 10.

Errrm, tangent question: The Witness "Elite", "Gold Team" shows that the 9mm one holds 18 rounds, yet the .38 super only holds 15 - how could this be? :scrutiny:

You could get a real nice 6 inch barrel for a 5 inch slide...
Cheers, TF

That is the Witness Hunter. I think there is another long barrel version that is a little cheaper.

Have to be "factory"? If not, you could probably mate a Caspian longslide to a Para frame...

I would think the EEA or buy a used double stack 1911 and buy a 6 inch top end for it. You should be able to get that done for a round 700.

Under $700's a complication... watch the gunshows, or watch for someone griping about "my Para POS" from your area around the gunboards.

Yeah, plus you are looking at mating/fitting slide to frame, and issues related thereto. I'm probably going with the OSS Taurus (which is actually only 5.25", but still longer than the 5.0" Tactical XD, not to mention cheaper) - this is for a pickup truck gun. Wanted a dark earth or OD green frame, but I don't think the OSS is offered in this. That XD tactical is certainly a strange animal, with the long slide, but yet the short grip, and coming with one short mag (10 rounds), and one long one (12 rounds) - versatile and a good idea, but strange. The OSS fits my hand like the proverbial glove however, and I don't need the short grip; I won't be carrying this gun.

You could get a real nice 6 inch barrel for a 5 inch slide..

I'm not really interested in that; I want the longer sight radius of the full length slide - but thanks.

Went ahead and snagged the Taurus 24/7 OSS Tactical. It's got some pretty nice features... love the grip feel & balance, loaded chamber indicator, cocked indicator, etc. But now I can't decide if this is gonna be my pickup truck gun or my new primary home defense pistol. Think it's gonna be the P/U gun. Anyone got an OSS?

MY PARA POS!! lol I will never say that!! I have nothing but awesome things to say about my para p14 Gun Rights model. Get that and add a 6" slide to it if you want.. you might not want to because it is such a beautiful gun!!!!:neener:http://www.thehighroad.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=88629&d=1228315979
