Could the so called 'journalist' who expressed his Bush-given freedom of opinion been taken out by a Secret Service body guard?

All I read is that he is being detained by Iraqi Security Services.
I would think that the SS has the authority to defend the President while on foreign ground? Where were these guys?

That video would have been so much more fun to watch if it ended with that piece of human refuse shot in the head.

That may have been what the guy wanted. The SS probably could have shot him, but they are more professional than that, IMHO.

Amen on that. Also, keep in mind, this was staged for middle-eastern media consumption, not US. Throwing or hitting someone with a shoe is a deep, deep insult in Iraq. Remember all the photos of Iraqis slapping the soles of their shoes on toppled statues of Saddam Hussein back in '03?

I suspect that the Secret Service could certainly have shot the man and not have been held in the wrong. Fortunately, as has been mentioned, they are far more professional than that.

in many downfalling empires it was usually the bodyguard who shot the emperor.... not the shoethrowers.

(couldn´t resist)

a shoe is not hard enough for the Bush/Rumsfeld infantile messup
they´ve left in the throwers homecountry.

Can´t wait to be forced to turn in my stinky chuck´s,
before attending a Bush press conference :)

Don't laugh, that was going on long before Bush II and 9/11.

To Wit: Circa 1984, Washington D.C.

A friend of mine, Capt., USMC, was assigned to Marine Corp Barracks at "Eight and Eye" in D.C. He was invited to a White House function - can't recall exactly what. But to see Reagan and hob nob was too much to pass up. His mistake, was to, at some point of drearing nothingness going on outside on the lawn, reach down to his ankle to fetch his container of chew from his sock - the only place he could carry it w/o wrecking the lines of his Class A's. Before the skoal hit the flesh, he was tumbling along the grass, looking at a cleaning bill and some serious trouble. Merely reaching for the ankle was enough, and in a crowd, to get him tagged, flagged, and rolled.

He told me this story just before we went to another White House function/photo op in 1985. It was seared in my memory. Even when their Dog (Lucky, I think it was) jumped on my leg and started getting, let's say, "friendly" in an inappropriate way, I did not flinch or move. Even got a photo of it somewhere.

Now this was against a Marine officer, in a crowd, circa 1984! Don't under-rate the president's secret service detail. FYI, this was also one squared-away Marine, albeit one with a nicotine addiction! And boy, was the Reagan's little terrier a randy little thing!

Could Secret Service Shoot Shoe Thrower?

If he had attempted to light the shoe before it was thrown.

If they had, they probably wouldn't have gotten in too much trouble. However, the situation did not call for that.

In addition, if they had, it probably would have made life harder for our troops stationed there.

I don't have very much approval of Bush, but I'll say this: I'd rather live in Iraq after Bush than Iraq under the previous ruler.

Why would you want to kill someone for throwing a shoe???

Do you really think he was trying to kill the president? or just insulting him?

Do you think everyone who insults the president should be shot?

It really didnt seem to phase Bush very much. His statements afterwards were calm, cool, and collected. He seems to understand that if you invade other people's countries and then refuse to leave, it will tend to piss off the locals.

Interesting video:

I really have to give Bush credit on his reflexes. It seems the shoe-ter
was quite accurate, too. This brings up some important questions:

Where did the shoe-ter receive training in this unconventional technique?

Did he have assistance from other groups? (Aside from Al the shoe salesman)

What kind of shoe-gun was it and what was its size?

If it was a split-toe tactical ninja shoe or some other evil black shoe-gun,
should we look at a ban on it?

Did it have strings, a buckle, velcro or other non-sporting attachments?

Did the shoe-ter wear detachable socks capable of holding more than 5 toes each?

Can there be an immediate executive order banning importation of similar
shoe-guns in this country?

Something about this shoe thing really stinks...

Yeah, we saw what happened to people who threw shoes at Saddam.
That miserable piece of human excrement mascarading as a journalist deserved to be shot. Actually he's probably wishing for that about now.
As pointed out, while it would have made many of us feel better,it wasn't the right thing to do.

If I recall the footage, he was grabbed by some burly gentlemen, put down and taken away, I think he would rather deal with our guys than theirs, They think different about being made to look bad.

Boy, Bush is fast... I wonder if Barry dodges as well as he.

I think that the Secret Service can pretty much shoot who ever they consider a threat, no q's asked.

They probably did not shoot because they recognized the threat for what it was AND it all happened so fast, they didn't have time to get a clean shot.

C'mon gang. This silliness has dang-all to do with legal realities...

This is THR, not the Enquirer.
