The 870 has seen some use, minor surface rust in a few spots but I think I can clean it up. Price is $140
500 is NIB at wal-mart for $159.
Both guns are 28" synthetic stocks, and I plan on buying one tomorrow for dove season.
Whadda you think?

That sounds like an excellent price on the Mossberg.

Did you take the time to swing both around a little (not by the barrel)?
It is a cliche but which one felt better for you. I picked up an 870 and a 1300 swung both and loved the feel of one over the other... safety was in the right place the action release felt right.
Do the same and the decision may be made for you.

Cameron

I am going with the 870 Express....I already have a 870 Police and it just makes more sense to stay with one style.
Thanks....

$140 is a good price, even with some marring of the finish. You already have an 870 and are used to the setup.
Nothing against Mossies, but the 870's the better deal.

$150 out the door and no rust. I just took it apart and cleaned it up, its seen some use but is still in great shape.
Gotta love a new (or used) 870!

More used gun porn.......I dont know why I post this crap, if you have seen one you have seen em all. My wife doesnt care, so maybe you will hehe.
I guess its the "pride of ownership" thing going on.

Excellent!
The least I've been able to pay for an 870 in similar condition, but with wood stocks is $ 175 in the D/FW area.
Great choice!

Too bad your not in Southern IN, there are 4-5 more just like it for $149 in the local pawn shop. There was a 20ga wingmaster for $189, but I like the 12ga.
I have never really bought anything in pawn shops before, but this place is a LOT cheaper than the local gunstores.

The trick to pawnshop shoping is to examine the gun carefully prior to the purchase. A handful of dummy shells might help, but I've never done that. There is a reason the gun was pawned. You hope that the reason is that the money was more important than the gun. You always suspect that there is something wrong with the gun.

The good part is its probably money. We have a new riverboat casino in town and pawn shops have sprung up everywhere. I wouldnt doubt that 50% of the guns in there are from people going to the "boat"
I took it apart and didnt see any problems, but I will shoot it tonight and let you know how it does.

Took the old 870 out to Grandpa's farm today for a little practice. Both he and I shot the 870 with no problems whatsoever.
All in all a great day, and a good shotgun.
