Price check aisle 10

I was at a local shop and they had a mod 10-2 with a 6" thin barrel and was wondering the various regional prices one would find for this gun. It is not listed as an option in S&N Standard catalog. I know that the 10-2 was only produced for one year and followed by the 10-4 which had a short life also.
So what is it worth in your area????

Uh...hmmm...duh.
I haven't the foggiest idea.
If in nice condition I would offer $200 out the door just cause I can't find it in my references.
I would also look really closely to determine if re-barrel.
Hoping for someone to come along and nail this one.

Boy C.R. you are a tight wad I bet you get 11 cents out of a dime with Green stamps no less.
I think price was $240?
If it was a rebarrel it looked very good.

Of all the barrel lengths offered in the model 10, the six-inch was the least popular. By that day (1961) the market preference was for two and four inch barrels. If this particular gun was in exceptionally good shape, and especially if it was in the original box with papers, it might be of slight interest to a S&W collector, but not many are interested in model 10's as opposed to pre-war 1905 Hand Ejectors that preceeded it.
Todays shooters generally aren't interested in long-barreled .38's with fixed sights. .357's maybe, but not .38's.
$240.00 seems high to me, and I think Sam's right. Unless you find the long length to be attractive for whatever you want too use it for I'd pass.

Well somebody wanted it cause it was sold yesterday before I could get back to the dealer.
It was a real nice gun and the fact that it had a 6" barrel was kind of unique in my book and would have made a nice range gun.
Thanks for the info

Sorry you missed it.
Generally speaking, you'll find the six-inch length in earlier guns, such as the pre-model 10's made after World War Two. If you like the longer barrel length also look for a used K-38 Target Masterpiece (a.k.a. model 14). This is also a .38 Special built on the K-frame, but it has adjustable sights. In some places they are more common then 6" model 10's.
