I'm talking about one of those you gotta pay Uncle Sam to make. I've got my Stevens 311 that sits by my bed., I bought years ago, super cheap due to a bulge in the barrel. A quick meeting with a hacksaw and the bulge was gone and I was left with around 21 inch tubes. But lately I've been thinking (always a bad idea) about evening up the cut, and while I'm at it just bring the tubes back to about 12 inches. Anyone done this? I'm going to let a smith do it this time since I'm the reason it needs to be evened up.

I've always wanted an old A&B, but only to look at, not to shoot. I believe I'll be leaving the buttstock on mine alone.

I've shot 870s with 14" "Entry Gun" barrels and other shorties. Blast and flash is impressive, AND counterproductive in low light scenarios.

IMO, leave that 311 as is, except to clean up the muzzles a bit. As it is, it's about the length of those entry guns.

Shortening below 18" means more govt interference in your life.

Not worth it...

in the 50's I had a .410 shotgun pistol, a side by side maybe Spanish, I was only 13-15 when I had it, can't remember that clearly except it was DEATH on rats in barns (winged rats also) ect. Wish I could have a 20 or .410 AOW in Kali:( :(

'Twere it mine, I'd have a smith trim it up. I would NOT get short enough to interest the Feds. What for? You don't gain anything by it, unless you want to carry concealed.

You guys is probably right. It's just that if I pay someone to even it up, I want it to look different when I get it back, so I feel like I'm paying for more than just to have someone fix my shoddy work.

Tell the smith to make it 18.5" and complain if it's shorter than that. I don't think many gunsmiths are going to want to trim it shorter, but you'll get a few that will get it super-close, and then ruin the crown and therefore your gun.

so what would be involved to make one of those sweet pistol shotguns like the one in the pic above?

Send a form to the BATF with $200 check, wait for approval, cut.
