My first gun was a Remington 581 that was purchased for me by an uncle in 1967. It was stolen in 1986 and I doubt I will ever see it again.

Maybe 5 years later I saw this 581 in a shop for sale. Came from the estate of a well known gunsmith and was his personal rifle (initials are stamped in the stock). He did a bunch of work on it which seems strange for such an inexpensive rifle.

He shortened the barrel to 20" and trimmed the fore-end of the stock. To maintain the same balance he drilled several small holes into the wood under the barrel and filled the holes with lead weights.

He drilled and tapped the action for a second screw to couple to the trigger guard (originally had only one).

Fiberglas-bedded the action and free-floated the barrel.

Lapped the bolt lugs and smoothed the trigger let-off.

Oops, I just realized this is the handgun forum so we really should be posting pics of pistols, not rifles.

This is my most interesting 22 handgun. A Colt conversion unit mounted on a Daly lower. I call it a Dolt. Almost looks like a junior Gold Cup. Functions 100% even to the point of locking the slide after the last shot which it never did on any Colt lower I tried.

Stocks are fake ivory with a scrimshawed winged reptile (an emblem I use sometimes) and a small diamond inset below it. Hey, doesn't everyone have a set of diamond-studded handgun grips?

I was looking at one at a shop today. Doesn't look like you're left handed, but would you happen to know if it's difficult to set it up for the southpaws? Also, have you been able to locate any larger capacity magazines? I've read it's not possible to interchange mags with a P22, have you experimented with it at all?

@ Serial Crusher:

I'm know that you can convert it to LH by yourself, but the manual suggests that you take it to a gunsmith. It honestly doesn't look like it would be too difficult though.

THe g22 magazines look nearly identical to the p22 magazines. The only difference is the floor plate.

And unfortunately, there are no hicap mags for it.

Still a fun plinker none the less.

MAN, I wanted one of those when I was 14! My mom got remarried and my new step dad says he has one and I can have it. WOOHOO! Well, it turned out to be a Mossberg 152, which I still have, but a long way from an M1 Carbine look alike. I was let down, but old enough not to show it. I learned to like the Mossberg, but always wanted that Erma.

I have an Erma LA22 Luger look alike. You know, I've never bought an M1 Carbine let alone that .22. I guess I sorta got over it. LOL Main reason I wanted that thing was the Lieutenant on the TV show "Combat" carried one. I don't know why I didn't go for Sargent Saunders' Thompson, but I just liked the Carbine, the looks were sexy. :D

Yes, the TPH can bite. I have a small hand so it seldom happens though. I love shooting this gun. It is a lot of fun.

The Iver Johnson TP22, American Arms PX22, and Excam RX22 are the same gun. I'm not sure all parts are 100% interchangable though. This one is quite accurate.

The FS22 is relatively new. Some bulk ammo, Remmington I think, has been misfeeding, but old reliable mini-mags feed fine. It is a fun plinker. I still would like to find a Beretta 87 or Walther PP for fun, but at $225 the Firestorm is at least cheap. Quality wise the Firestorm reminds me of the Walther P22, (and that is not a compliment). ;)

My turn to post my new rimfire pistol. And just to rub it in this is a model that we can get up here north of the 49th but that isn't imported into the US.

It's a Tanfoglio (think EAA Witness lineup) Force 22. It's a lightweight with a polymer frame and magazines and an anodized aluminium slide with a proper steel barrel.

I've put 500 rounds of CCI standard velocity through it and it's shooting like a champ. Any issues with the target in the background are due to the sloppiness, newbieness and general body failings of the operator. Actually most of the target points shown aren't bad for my current abilities. The bigger IPSC diamond on the left was shot with double taps.... at least MY version of double taps which is pretty darned slow... :D As for the rest those were seriously aimed groupings that show a little of what the gun can do. This target having been shot at around 12 yards.

What I like about this pistol over a lot of others that I tried was the fact that it has some kick to it so it's excellent for my chosen game of IPSC, IDPA and other run and gun events that I'm looking to do this coming season. The little bit of kick not only gives me practice in regaining my sight picture after each shot but it adds to the fun of shooting.

The fact that the frame angle and feel is extremely close to my CZ SP-01 Shadow just adds to the excellence of this pistol as a great practice gun for me.

How do you like that Izh-35m? I've often thought about getting one, swapping for a heavier recoil spring for high vedlocity ammunition, putting more conventional grips on it and using it for a woods gun.

I like it. It has a great trigger, adjustable. Feeds reliably. I wish it used 10 round magazines instead of 5 round mags. I do not shoot much, but it seems pretty accurate. I do not know if the springs are easily changed or what HV ammo would do for long term use. I would think it would be best to stick with standard velocity, since at the distances I am effective with a pistol, I would not think it would make a whole lot of difference. If something does not go well with HV it would be tough to get the gun fixed.

Gotime, I'm sure that's not what we were expecting but WOW! That's a nice picture! Pictures like this, be it for shooting or any other activity, really pull the mind back to the expectations of the day if it's an early morning shot or the satisfaction of a day well spent if it's taken at the end of the fun and frolics.

I bought this when I was 15. My dad provided the finger prints. I think it's a 1991. I added the grips and the trigger over the years.

Hello everyone. I have always enjoyed rimfires and their low cost of ownership. Here is a picture of my MkII pistol. It's a blast to shoot but a pain to clean. Also have an Armi Jager rifle I will be posting later this week. Since parts have gotten scare it's more of a show piece than a work horse.

Nice piece Texas Joe!

I use the same basic pistol, a 4 inch bull barrel Ruger MKII, to train new shooters. It is a very nicely balanced pistol. Mine is stainless, with Volquartsen guts. The grips are from CDNN. I recently added a fiber optic front sight. The fiber optic front sight is one of the best additions i have made.

just to rub it in this is a model that we can get up here north of the 49th but that isn't imported into the US.

It's a Tanfoglio (think EAA Witness lineup) Force 22. It's a lightweight with a polymer frame and magazines and an anodized aluminium slide with a proper steel barrel.

BCRider, I was wondering why I had never seen one of those before. Very cool looking! We need to get those into the U.S.

Arkie and Xavier,

The both of you have some sweet setups. I contemplated modifying my MK but instead decided to save for a new Ruger 10/22. I sold mine last year and it's feels like I lost a good friend. :(

Hello again,

Here is a pic of my pride and joy. Jager AP74 .22 rifle. It's a solid little gun I purchased new at a Kmart or Walmart store many years back. It's most content with solid point ammo and will fuss when you feed it hollow points. Now a days it only comes out for it's semi-annual cleaning and then right back to storage. My concern is busting the firing pin or losing the magazine. Parts for these little guys are hard to come by. Enjoy! :)

+1 I like the 4" bull barrel myself (and those two are very fine examples:)). While that length doesn't (IMO) look as nice on the 22/45 frame , I have been very happy with the performance and handling characteristics of it.
