We have some tough choices to make. But we can't just think about
what the governor would sign or veto. We have to consider what will
happen while the far left Demorats control the legislature by
overwhelming margins. What would they do if Arnold wins? Go
moderate? I don't think so. Go extreme is more likely.
Gov. Davis: The fact is he has been a moderating influence on the
more extreme Demorat leaders in the legislature. By all the crap
passing this year, when they have him over a barrel, you can see what
they'd really want to do. Davis is a finger-in-the-wind, middle-of-
the-road guy by instinct. He tampers down the more extreme Demorats
behind the scenes - at least when his election is not at stake.
Gov. Bustamante: Like Davis, Bustamante is from the more middle of
the Demorat party. He too would likely tamp down the more extreme
elements of the Demorats, at least on gun issues. He is not
campaigning on gun control at all, unlike Davis who did campaign on
gun control both times.
Gov. Arnold: Even if Jim March is right and Arnold is not a gun
grabber (despite his pledge to sign the 50 cal ban, sign SB 489 and
sign ballistic fingerprinting), the problem is that he would face an
angry and energized far left group in the legislature. If you were
the Demorat leadership, and Arnold was governor, what would you do?
In their place I would pass the most extreme, but "feel good
sounding" legislation you can imagine. Registration,
licensing, "Childproof" guns. Etc. Maybe Arnold will veto SOME of
it. But look who he's married to. Think about it. The Demorats
will pile up a mountain of extreme gun bills on his desk and he's
gonna sign some really bad ones. And those are bills that Davis or
Bustamante would quietly kill before they ever got to the gov's
desk. Childproof and ballistic fingerprinting bills were killed last
year in the California legislature. You can bet the Demorats would
make sure they got to Gov. Arnold though.
Gov McClintock: Jackpot. No question the best. But can he win?
If McClintock can't win, we're better off with Davis or Bustamante
than Arnold.
RINOs like Arnold are WORSE than Demorats like Davis. Both because
of the image they send that Republicans should be kind to gun
grabbers, and because of what the Demorat leadership will do to a
RINO governor.
