More .44 Carbine

Hello:

Now that I've got it in my head to buy one of the .44 caliber 1894 series rifles (or carbines) in Marlin or Winchester, I'd like to know what group members think would be an adequate scope for shooting 100 yds. plus at targets, plates or whatever. What brand and power would fill the bill here without going overboard in the money department? (The only other rifle I ever owned had a scope worth half again what the gun cost). No hunting trips for this new gun-strictly fun at the range. Also, once its broken in, if I'm not satisfied with the trigger pull are there drop-in kits or is this something best left to a 'smith?

Thanks for the previous information and whatever you may have on this question too.

Pete

Regarding trigger question - I got one of those "Trigger Happy" kits for my Marlin 1894 (mine is in .357, but I think it's the same for .44).
It is drop-in (I managed to install it with no problems, using disassembly instructions I found online), and it resulted in a very nice and light trigger pull. Cost about $70, IIRC.
