and for the question .... in the second pic: just below the barrell is a rod.
it will slide right out of the stock. It has a threaded end inside the stock. It appears to be a cleaning rod.....at least thats what it looks like to me. Am I right?

That be a cleanin' rod alright. Most, if not all commie rifles have a slot under the barrel for a cleaning rod.

When issued, these rifles also had a little tube-style cleaning kit that would go into the trap-door in the butt; the kit had a jag, a brush, a wrench, and the outer tube could be used as a handle for the cleaning rod. It's easy to get your finger pinched in the trap-door, though, so be careful.

Oh, yes, those are FUN to shoot! I have a few.. put a 2x red dot sight (an Aimpoint) on mine... and it's a real rascal at the range. In my book, it's like a Big Boy's 10/22! Wahoo!
Sure, it's not a target gun, not an assault rifle, and it's not a mighty fine deerslayer like a .308 or better... but like I said, a world of fun! I'm keeping mine.:D

Your cleaning kit should be in the butt end of the weapon. Just push on the little door and it should pop out.
