...no not the kind they have in mental hospitals :)
I saw a WWII era 1911 once that had clear plastic grips with photographs underneath them. Anybody know of a current source for these? Thanks

Just what I see on TV :neener:
The grips I saw were on an officers issue pistol and had a picture of his wife and daughter. I thought it was touching that he kept those pictures there on the pistol he relied on as his last line of defense.

I actually like the idea of clear grips (kinda like an ASP). Reeder's are $60 and made from polycarbonate or to quote him: "They are made of Lexan, not plastic " . No disrespect intended, but that sounds like a very "Glocklike" statement and is just funny to me.

Actually, Lexan is a ittle different from what we think of as "normal" plastic. While it certainly is a form of plastic, Lexan has certian properties that would make it more suitable in this application. Mainly, It doesn't yellow. I have Lexan grips on my ASP that are twenty years old and are as clear as can be.

Lexan is just the GE trade name for polycarbonate (PC). Polycarbonate is a type of plastic, specifically it is an engineering thermoplastic. Some people just don't like using the word "plastic" for their high quality parts because of the perceived cheap connotation. I don’t mind marketing types avoiding the term “plastic” but when they deny that something is plastic, it just shows that they don’t know what they are talking about.
PC is an excellent choice for this purpose because it is strong, creep resistant, clear (easily colored) , cheap and easy to mold. Unfortunately, some form of chemical hard coating is required on the both surfaces because PC is so soft and easily scratched. It also requires a UV stabilization agent to be added because UV will cause severe and quick discoloration. PC is wonderful stuff, but it IS just plastic. I spent 11 years in product development at Motorola, so have spent a fair amount of time designing plastic, and other, stuff.
I’m jealous of that ASP you have.
