I'm looking at the Choate Ultimate Varmit Stock for the Savage 10FP 308. I understand some models have 4.275 action screw spacing, some have 4.411 spacing. I've tried to measure but it's hard to get this accurate. The rifle is just a few weeks old, anybody know when Savage changed the spacing and which is the spacing on the newer models? Thanks in advance.

should be the 4.41 if its a new model. if youve taken the action out of the stock and the mag stayed with the stock then it is a 4.41" centerfeed, if the mag came out with the action then its the 4.25 staggered feed. bell and carlson is coming out with a tactical stock with A5 grip for the 4.4 next month

I took the stock off and the box magazine stayed with the stock, so it must be the 4.4".

zammy,

You may want to re think the Choate stock I had the stock on a 12FV Savage, the stock is all that they claim very accurate with the full aluminum bedding, but the draw back is the 5#+ weight that it adds to the rifle! With scope, mounts rings, full mag , sling, and bipod the rig weighed over 14#

I sold my Choate and Bought a Bell and Carlson DuraMax pillar bedded synthetic. Just as accurate and less weight.

The Choate people made their Ultra Varmint so it woud fit just about any one with the spacers for length of pull and the cheek risers , but they forgot the TRAINING WHEELS so you can move the rig around!

This rifle won't be used for anything but bench shooting so I'm not really worried about the weight. If anything I want it heavy so it doesn't blow around in the stiff winds we get here as much. I appreciate the input, though- the weight will keep me hunting with my 30-06!

zammy,

It definitley shines off the bench it even has a rear elevation adjustment,a screw at the bottom rear of the stock, and the Anshutz style adjustable rail is the bees knees when it fitted with a Harris 9" bipod!

I'm going to weight it down a little extra, too- Harris 9-13" bipod.
