All,

You might have read a post of mine a week or so ago asking for information on a Simson & Co of Schul Germany 16g double barrel. Well, I was mainly worried about the stock which had some very tiny cracks in the wood near the joint.

I had the gun looked over by a gunsmith associated with a high end store here in Atlanta. Got it back yesterday. Gun has a totally clean bill of health I was told. The stock cracks are very minor and the smith said he did not wish to even attempt to do anything. That the gun could be shot safely and not to worry about the stock. The cracks are very minor from age and drying. No charge ...

So I go ahead and buy some different shells (2 different loads of Fiochi and RTS 2.5 1 oz shells), some linseed oil for cleaning up the wood and some 16 guage snap caps with the cleaning brush inserts.

Well, the snap caps does not let the action close fully, by about 16th of an inch it seems. Shells close fully in the action. Any ideas????

Thick rims on the snap caps ?
Snap caps overly long for the chambers ?

great snap caps for a gun with a loose action.

Mine lock is to tight for these caps. replaced with new ones. Just suprised by this, I had never run into this problem.

You purchased a German shotgun in 16 gauge, is it an older model and does it have short chambers? Many of the European shotguns (and older US made 16 gauge guns) have shorter than 2 3/4" chambers. Odessa

the chambers are 2 3/4. The barrel water plate is marked 16/70 which is 16g with 70mm chambbers .. or 2/34. Thank you though
