After a while I learned that folks usually have about as many knives as they do guns...what's your gun to knife ratio?
2 to 1.

Okay, I'll play...I'm figuring I'm 4 : 1 guns to knives, unless I can add in the knives I have in the kitchen ;)

Depends what you count as a knife, do you include razors and utility knives kept in my toolbox?
Counting only real pocket knives (and not including kitchen knives, razors, $2 utility knives, etc), I've got like 8:1 guns:knives. Ammo bills keep me from buying more knives.

6:1 guns to knives.
Knives that are worth more than $20, zero.
Though I guess one is coming in the mail for my birthday that will count as a nice knife, one that I can't carry around.

And I own more than one knife :p

Probably 10:1.
Next year I'm going to hammer a worn file into a knife. Got a Kukri that Spectre (John Shirley) gave me that is made from a file. Embarassingly untactical but my favorite daily carry knife is the Swiss Army. That knife has over 40k frequent flyer miles on it.
Now, my favorite "display" knife is a navy fighting knife with a gold battleship on it. It's a Pearl Harbor commerative and one day I'll surround it with 1/1200 scale models of the battleships that were present. Another nice "display" set is my Rex Applegate fighting knives. They even came with an autographed photo of the good Colonel. :D There are many more knives, but I really don't keep track of them all.

I'd have to move again to figure it out.
But I usually wear more guns than knives.

Roughly 1:1, not counting swords or multitools, but counting bayonets.

If we're talking carrying, and not owning, then knives win out.
I usu carry one gun (P7M8) and 3 knives (Gerber, Benchmade and Leatherman).
If we're talking owning, then it's more even.

That's only counting the real knives, not the crappy ones I've found over the years in theaters and stuff.

Umm. A safe full of guns and a drawer full of knives.
Since the knives are smaller than the guns, and the drawer is smaller than the safe....
I'd say about 1:1.

A rough guestimate would be 20+ knives to every gun.:D

I'd guess about 1:1 ratio at this time.
Too many of both, and in each category, most are NIB.
I both collect and carry shooters/using knives

I'm not going to count all of them up, but if you check my sig, you'll probally understand why its around 35 knives for every gun.
Good news is, I have ALOT of guns;)

Uh, a Ka-Bar Black Tanto, a Glock field knife, a Swiss Tool, a Swiss Huntsman F, a Böker Speedlock, a Herbertz one-hand folder, a cheap jackknife, and a cheap multi-purpose knife in the car. That's eight knives vs three guns.

Let's see, I have a Kershaw I carry every day and a Buck that goes hunting with me. That makes it about 15 to 1.

I really only have one knife, the one I carry 24/7, not counting the 3 bayonets now on web gear. It does pretty much all I need it to do, so I see little need for another.

Mine is a ratio of 1 to 3.357 guns to knives.
For math wizards how many would that be? (in double digits)

September 24, 2003, 07:05 PM
3:2:2 = guns to knives to axes.
I like axes. :D
jacketch, is it 14 guns and 47 knives?
{edited to add: and Schuey2002 (below), I am seriously low on flashlights :( I'd better get on it.}

It's probably a 2:1 ratio..
Now if you asked about a "Flashlight to Gun Ratio", then it would be more like 1:1.. :D

Got two fighting folders, one fighting fixed blade *knife*, a 21" Khuk closer to shortsword class, and one battle-grade Katana.
Three handguns, the biggest a 38snub. Another to be added soon (FINALLY!)

I have a close friend of the family who once told me that he had an insurance appraiser come to his house to insure his knife collection. The insurance appraiser left without a clue as to what to tell my friend his 1,500 knives were worth, or how to insure them.:D 1,500

Not counting anything in the kitchen, or anything worth less than $20, my gun to knife ratio is probably 1:4 or 1:5, and I'm not really hurting for guns, either. Just went on a knife bender a while back.

I've paired down the number of knives this past year, and upped the quality. I probably have a 2:1 ratio of knives to guns.
And BTW, since I just noticed Mr Fennell checked in...
I'm NOT gonna count all those knives up......
I have a question: where's that BK&T 11?!! I'd like to increase my knife side of the equation, ya know? :p :D geegee
