Merry Christmas everyone,

While making my daily check of the Texas DPS website (waiting for approval of my CHL renewal), I stumbled across some interesting stats:

http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/crime_records/chl/ConvictionRatesReport2006.pdf

While these are Texas specific, I would think there are similar stats for other shall issue states. What do you think?

The other thing I found interesting, was the fact that this charge, "UNL CARRY HANDGUN LIC HOLDER", by definition, has to be commited by a license holder (CHL), wouldn't you think? I mean, that even for a law that was written specifically for us to break, we still only manage to get charged with 45 percent of the total charges! :)

I thought this might also be good ammo for those of you who often get into a pro-gun type discussion at work, home or elsewhere.

Love you and all seeing as I grew up in Austin when it was still great. But security guards, armored car guys, cops, armed security, company based personal protection also can be convicted of it, so more illegitimate uses of guns by guys that "have" to have guns than those that "want" to have guns, seems odd to me from the ban guns perspective, something isn't holding up, gun owners more resposible than those you give guns? No couldn't be.

(unless they are using it to tack on a charge to lock people up for longer, but I don't think so)

140 out of 61,539, for a grand total of .2275%

That, my friends is some very powerful ammunition.

I especially liked this one: ''UNL POSS METAL OR BODY ARMOR BY FELON'', according to this report 1 out 36 people convicted of this had a CHL.:scrutiny:

Upon further thought (Caution, thread jack in progress) could you be charged/convicted with this offence if you were in possession of the body armor while committing the felony, even though you could not be arrested on this charge having not been a convicted felon at the time of the arrest?

UNL POSS METAL OR BODY ARMOR BY FELON 36 1 2.7778%

that one got me too
if you're a felon in posession of body armor, howd you have the Concealed weapon license?:scrutiny:

What percentage of the Texas population are CHL holders? 2-3%?

My impression is that in every state that has Shall Issue laws, about 3% of the population ends up getting the permit.

MANSLAUGHTER 93 0 0.0000%

MURDER 328 1 0.3049%

MURDER UNDER INFLUENCE OF SUDDEN PASSION 3 0 0.0000%

These 3 catagories of crime (or lack thereof) seem the most relevant. This seems to discredit any sort of that "wild west" or "blood flowing in the streets" garbage.

Florida keeps and posts stats as well, and they have 20+ years of data.
Results are surprisingly similar.
Imagine that--law abiding citizens obeying the law.
