I live in ************ and I was thinking of trading my glock 17 for a fellow calguns members mini 14 the serial is 181xxx I was wondering if these are the series that had the accuracy problem? The guy said it functioned flawlessly I mean im sure I will be accurizing it but is it a even trade? comming with plenty of mags... I already have a m1 garand and what not just looking for another truck gun/SHTF rifle.

The 181 series were the old rifles that had whatever idiosyncracies that the old rifles had.

I have a 181 series Mini-30 but never had a problem with the accuracy though. Don't forget, no trading hi-caps in ************ because it is grandfathered only to the original owner.

181 series Mini-14's are reliable, as are all Mini-14's, but their accuracy is poor. 3 to 4 inches at 100, if you're using good ammo and get lucky. Accurizing them isn't cheap either. Don't think I'd trade any Glock for one. My Plainfield M1 carbine will shoot circles around any stock Mini-14 with my handloads.

Well originally I was looking for a m1 carbine but no luck... The magazines are ten rounders and 5 rounders... I dont want to make a OLL so im looking for a m1 carbine or mini 14... Just didnt know if it was a good trade or what not... Its a glock 17 with about 500 rounds down the tube...

Did you already do the deal? I'll buy your G17 if it is Gen3 with night sights.

In any event, Big 5 sells M1 Carbines, you just have to ask for it.

It's a gen 3 but im not really wanting to sell it just trade it... the big 5 around here is selling m1 carbines for like 900 bucks...

What's the difference... trading or selling? As for Big 5, get to know the manager and ask for the sales price. They were on sale forever down here for $500, Saginaw M1 Carbines in 85% condition. I almost bought one but remembered I have no more space in the safe.

Oh, another thing, if you're not in a hurry, you can go to CMP and mail order a Saginaw for $575 mailed straight to your door via UPS. Yep, the last bastion of common sense still previals with the CMP.

I guess I would sell it if I dont come up with a good trade offer... If so ill PM you. do you have to have a C&R license to get it mailed to your door though?

notorious
December 26, 2008, 03:05 AM
Nope, with the CMP program, you send in a few forms with a notary stamp and they run the checks and in 60-90 days, the UPS truck drops off a firearm at your door.

Look them up and read up on the rules. It's pretty cool. I want to do it just for the kick of getting a gun delivered to my door.

The 60-90 day waiting period sucks though compared to the local 10 day waiting period but it's the novelty of it all.

Hmmm... well, if all you want is the Mini-14, don't forget Turner's is having a sale on the Ranch Rifle.

I believe the 181 series is had to get parts for. Ruger doesn't make them anymore.

I had a mini and sold it off. Any attempts to accurize a mini is welcome news for the Tylenol company. :)

Of course YMMV...

Quick, trade before he changes his mind!!!!!! The MIni is more accurate at 100 yards than the Glock is!

Ive had a mini-14 for years, great reliable rifle, but no comparison to the accuracy of an AR at distances of 100 meters of more.
I have a glock 22 and would never trade it on a mini-14 (2 completely different purposes).
Dont get me wrong, the mini is as accurate as most rifles in its class, but not great at all. I found that ammunition does not effect the accuracy much at all with my AR, my Ruger target rifle, my 10/22, or my mini-14. The differences are so minute from the cheapest target ammo at 100 meters to the best, and even reloads (my own), that I would measure it in 1/16-1/4 inch at 100 meters.
Anyone having accuracy problems that are very big at 100 meters are not with ammunition, Id say its the "nut behind the trigger". Human error is 99% of accuracy problems unless you have a real malfunction with a weapon of a round.

I do have another handgun. I just want to get a nice carbine without having to build a OLL... anyone have any experience with the auto ordnance m1's?

The 181-series is no problem to get parts for. It's the 180-series that is the pain. Good thing they don't break down that often.

You can get an Auto-Ordnance M1 in Kalifornistan?

Don't even waste your money with the Raddlock or U-15 or bulletmag or whatever. That is just blasphemy on a semi-auto firearm.

Stick with a good Mini-14. For whatever problems you have read or whatever you think, if you will do, the Mini-14 will do. At practical ranges you will be engaging the zombies within 50 yards and you can easily hit 4" groups off-hand, which is good enough for headshots.

I'd trade. I've owned three minis and one Glock 17. In kalifornistan your Glock can only have ten round mags anyway, so the extra weight/height/length is wasted. Plus, unless you're really fortunate, you can't CC it anyway.

But the mini is a ton of fun. Take it coyote hunting and pretend you're repelling an invasion.

To get max accuracy out of your mini, though, you'll need a scope, and if the mini isn't a "ranch" model, you might be better off trading for one of those.

Best of luck.

Why not trade your G17 for a G26 then?

chriso
December 26, 2008, 11:18 PM
What do you guys think a good price for the g17 and TLR-2 together would be with 2 mags a speedloader and case? only has had about 500 rounds through it...

I moved from kalifornistan about three years ago and don't remember what the Glocks were going for.

A Glock 17 comes with two mags and, the "speedloader." I assume you're referring to the little tool that comes with the gun to help load bullets in the mag. (Technically, that's not a "speedloader." A "speedloader" is the nominclature for a revolver tool.)

Anyway, all of that comes with the Glock, and around here would probably sell for about $485. I sold mine about a year ago for $450, but that was with 17 round mags.

The TLR-2 sells on opticsplanet for $237.99 new.

I'd list it for $650 for the package?

Yeah i got mine for almost 600 when taxes and all that were done here... the cheapest I found here is 511 but thats not OTD... Yeah i know what a revolver speedloader but what would it be called then "the tool that comes with the glock" haha...

TLR is going for $212 online (no tax) and the G17 with night sights and 3 hi-caps are going for $478, which makes a new package worth $690 before tax on the gun and DROS.

I've got a M1 Carbine,US.30 cal.
If you are looking for something you want to shoot at stuff and kill at more than 75yrds skip the .30 carbine.(however at the muzzle it's about like a .357 mag for ft/lb.)good for around the house.

I have a 580 series Mini 14 and love it,it is not a tack driver, but it does what I expect a cheap, tough carbine to do.
181s are fine too, home defense, and are more than accurate enough inside of 100 yards (any that I've seen)

The Universal carbine was never military issue, and the "Big Red One" wasn't at the "Frozen Chosin".

I know... I was playing that video game, the Big Red 1, and just wanted to type that in there.

I have no clue who was at the Chosin Reservoir other than that it was the Marines who had the bitter fight there, according to Gunny Highway.

But the point is, the M1 Carbine worked in the deserts of Rommel's Africa to the Beaches of Normandy to the frozen expanses of Korea and the steaming jungles of Vietnam and so shall it work in the urban warzone of Lost Angels.

Yes the military issued carbines work 'round the world, the aftermarket ones, (Universal, Planefield, Kahr, etc) aren't generally reliable.

Very simple, I have no life now that I quit all the other forums and I got kicked out of my Warcraft Guild for pulling too many Leroy Jenkins... and if you know what that means, you are not much better off than me!
