Just got thru my CZ52 from AIMSurplus ..... doubt I'll be shooting it that much with the ammo hard to find but a few questions from those familiar with the piece.

First - it is of course covered in oil etc so strip and clean is priority .... can anyone give me the strip proceedure or a link to a good site for that?

Second .... where might be best for ammo??

This appears to be a pretty good specimen ....... came in old leather pouch holster with flap and spare mag.

TIA.

Hello P95Carry,
I have one of these and it has been 100% reliable with new S&B and older mil-surplus ammo with the exception one bad primer with the S&B ammo.

Ammo is sometimes found at gunshows for pretty cheap or you can order online at several places. There was a problem with Yugo surplus ammo I think but someone here may know for sure. I had some Czech surplus that was fine but it was corrosive.

Takedown is a snap except for getting the BBL out of the slide. If you know how to do it, it is easy. After you pull down on the two tabs at the front toppart of the trigger gaurd, the slide and BBL assembly will come loose. Now to get the bbl out of the slide, you need something small and round to free the bbl. I use a cleaning rod with no tip attached. Just put the end of the rod in the hole and pull back until the roller locks disengage. Now you can pull the bbl down and out of the slide.

If you have a problem, check back and we will help you. It is tricky the first time but once you understand what you have to do, it is easier the next time.

Is yours blued or parkerized? If it is Parkerized, it is the original finish. From what you said, it looks nice so it is probably a factory reblue, most are.

Do NOT dry fire it!

The firing pins on these guns tend to be rather prone to breaking if you dry fire them.

THANKS guys!!! Gee that was quick ..... no wonder we all love this site so much.

I shall check this out later when time permits .. I ain't gonna rush it first time. Point taken re dry fire ... remember that from before ....... in fact apart from transfer bar revo's I always prefer to have snap caps.

I'll give feedback later ... probably a pic too.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just shot this pic - should come up .. light not ideal and still real oily ... but probably get better shot later. This one is parkerized.
I'm sure you would have found this out on your own really quickly anyway, but...
The '52 does not have a slide release in the traditional sense. Ostensibly the only way to lock the slide is to pull it back on an empty mag. However, the bar that accomplishes this feat is accessable from the outside of the pistol - if you just push up on it, you can lock the slide w/o a mag. Pull back slide and ride forward to close her up.
The trigger on mine stacked up a LOT. The replacement trigger group from makarov.com made a heck of a difference. It does disable the decock feature, turning it into pretty much a second trigger, so be aware.
Depending on their condition, new springs may help out to. Have fun with it!
Stick with S&B ammo. Chinese surplus in 70 round brown boxes is good too, but the supply has dryed up. This is corrosive, but if you clean properly there is no problem. There is some bad Bulgarian stuff out there. Get a spare firing pin and as Mike said don't dry fire. Beware of trigger pins that slowly come out. There are several web sites that have downloadable manuals for the CZ 52. Do a Google search.
Thx maxin ...... yeah, did discover that thru experiment .... not that hard to use and adequate.
I have managed a successful strip down so again thx to firestar particularly. It was of course not that hard but it is good to have another's advice first.
I found some ammo ...... at
http://the-armory.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/handgunammo.html
and it is Sellier & bellot at $8.95 per 50 box ... didn't strike me as too bad a price.
Haven't finished the clean-up yet but no rush .... and once the ammo arrives next week will look forward to some useage.
Thx again guys - appreciated.:)
Edit to add ..... oops ... didn't see your post there Ron ... thx for that. As I mentioned it is S&B I have coming ... always trust that. And will try and get a spare firing pin too.
Let me add ...... just finished a total clean up ..... and gotta say ... this is one helluva good specimen. Cannot possibly have seen much service ........ barrel is incredible .... ultra bright chroming and rifling excellent. Outside of barrel shows NO wear from spring friction, which over time and a lot of ammo I would expect to see ..... barrel is parkerized too, which is of course pretty hard wearing. Just need to feed it now!!
Firestar . one small question outa interest .... those two lil rollers seem captive in the block ........ good thing as it'd be awkward if they always fell out ... but, are they removable do ya know ... only curious.
Oh and ... did a search around for a firing pin but so far came up with zilch ... any source you know of? I will also go look at Brian's 2nd link ... that looks most useful.
Your gun has been rearsenaled, that's why it's so pristine.
I believe all of the "blue/black" guns are rearsenaled. The original finish was a greyish color.
J&G surplus used to carry firing pins. I'm also pretty sure you can get one from makarov.com
Something that I heard/read out on my travels on the web was to use the front of the magazine floorplate to get the BBL out. It works and is (or should be) always with the pistol.
http://www.makarov.com/cart/vitemcz52.htm has the firing pins.
Actually found my easiest ''tool'' for bbl removal was a near exact fit Phillips screwdriver! Re-arsenaled ....... yeah, can understand that .... but actually, personal pref only, prefer the look of this over gray anyways.
I have found the firing pin spare . yep, Makarov.com ...... have gone for the after market machined one ... stronger. Also decided to get me a spare pair of rollers and a 16.5# spring.
Now just need that ammo to arrive!:p
I thought I was the only one using the phillips screwdriver trick. I've done it with the mags in a pinch though--can't say that one is really much easier than the other. You do have to be careful using the mag--you can bend the floorplate if you don't support it with your finger.
I have one rearsenaled and one original. I like the rearsenaled finish better too.
You should be aware that some of the aftermarket firing pins disable the firing pin safety. I don't know which kind you bought...
John - ordered the stronger, machined pin from makarov.com ... yet to find out if it alters safety or not.
I'll report back sometime later maybe, when ammo arrives and i have had some fun!!
Lock the slide back and push on the hammer end of the firing pin with a small punch.
If the firing pin protrudes from the breechface then the pin you have disables the firing pin safety.
You should also be aware that some of the CZ-52 decockers function as a second trigger. It's probably always a good idea to ride the hammer down slowly when using the decocker.
Useful advice John thx . I shall ''feel my way in'' .. always do with strange piece .... plus even with my P series .... operate decocker pointing in VERY safe direction!:p
I still tend to release hammers onto my thumb ..... under control, with older auto's.
I too put the H&R FP and wolff spring in mine, just shot it today. Be aware that the extractor can interfere with the movement of the firing pin as mentioned in the instructions. Pay attention to that cause it seems to me that if one didn't one could end up with a very exciting machine pistol.
Mine was a blast at the range, literally. Accuracy wasn't that great with 6-8" groups several inches low at ~20 yds. But up close the quick recovery makes it a snap to hammer 2-4" groups and the boom and fireball is most impressive. I wouldn't ever use one for self defense carry but i think with some SP or HP it could definately do a number on a BG.
Anyone know if SOG's CZ52's are the same as AIM Surplus? SOG has them for $99 while AIM's are $109.
