In another thread recently there was mention that someone is planning to offer their bolt action rifle in .250-3000. Anyone remember who that was? I would like to get a .250 in something other than Savage 99 and all I've seen is a too pricey custom Remington Seven.

I have a very nice condition 93 Spanish Mauser that has been BUBBAD that I am going to build a 250/3000 on. Should be a nice little gun.

Shilen makes a replacement barrel in 250 Savage for the Savage-Stevens model rifles. Buy a Stevens 200 for under $300 in something like 22-250, and add the Shilen barrel for $200. All you need to change barrels is a headspace gauge that'll work for both, and a barrel nut wrench and you'll have a 2 caliber rifle for under $600.
Makes sense to me.

Last time I was on the Savage site, they listed one of the Classic models in both .250 and .300 Savage. Don't know if they are actually available yet.

Actually I am wondering how short an action can be chambered in .250. It is a short case and lends itself well to a compact, light rifle. But I don't want a full length action chambered in .250. What would be excellent is the CZ 527 action, but I fear it is too short although the .250 case is only a tad longer than .223 or x39.

I don't understand the fascination with lightweight and "compact" platforms as they relate to bolt actions, are shooters that enfeebled that that an extra 1/2" of length and a few ounces really matter

if action length is really that important there's a rifle that has an action length of 0

It's called the break action single shot:neener:

There are far stranger things than compact bolt actions that "I" don't understand the fascination for.
