Yup, that'll probably be my next gun purchase, especially with centerfire ammo going through the roof.
I was looking at a TOZ 78, but the Henry looks to be more fun.

I have the same exact rifle, but with the normal lever loop. It's quickly becoming one of my favorites, I take it with me on every trip to the range. :)
This may be a naive question, but what is the purpose of the large loop?

You mean you've never watched the Duke make his charge toward the end of True Grit?

Just picked one up myself, regular loop though. Going to try to get out tomorrow and see how it and the new Marlin I bought shoot. Needed to get some rifles that were cheaper to shoot then my centerfire ones.

Its not very often I hear someone say they special ordered a gun from Wally World.
Those Henrys are sweet but as you noticed are plagued by inferior sights. I call them BB gun sights. If there is a good receiver option out there go with that. Otherwise get some Lyman or Marbles iron sights that will use the existing dovetails.
With the front bead I prefer white to gold or fiber optic.

Here are some Sites for you:http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=547639
I have never tried them but they are probably better than the sites that are on my Henry .22.

looks like the rear sight has been covered, but the front sight is still up in the air. since it is part of the plastic barrel band, you might either have to modify it your self, or hunt for some time. i haven't seen one yet. but then, i dont get out much. anyway, i had thoughts along the same lines, when i picked up the rifle for the first time. i bought a scope and mounts even before i left the store with my new henry. i just bought an inexpensive bushmell 3-9x32 plinker scope. the stock sights would be ok for short range plinking, as long as your not trying for anything specific. but, if you want to actually get near what the rifle will do, you need much better sights, or a scope.
