I'm looking at a Model 629 Carry Comp. 44 Mag. Has anyone shot one of these little cannons, and what did you think? Comes ported with a 3 inch barrel. Wondering how the recoil is.

I have a 3" Trail Boss, with magnaports. I've shot relatively little full house ammo out of it, and the report was worse than the recoil. Even with plugs and muffs, in an indoor range it would make your nose run, just from the pressure waves.

I have a 3" S&W 629, Lew Horton model. It is not ported. The recoil is not much different than a 4". The main appeal is that with the 3" barrel and the round butt, it is very easy to carry, and some trade-off to achieve that is worthwhile. I also find it easier to get a properly fitting grip on a round butt model, and it is grip fit and material that makes a difference in controlling recoil. I specifically chose a non-ported variant as I was going to be shooting lead bullets most of the time, and ports aren't very friendly on lead bullets (or vice versa).
