I am looking for something a little smaller to carry on a day in and day out basis than my 1911. Please vote in the poll and explain your vote here meaning pro's/cons. I am considering each one and am curious if anyone has personal experience with these on a CCW basis. if so, please divulge :) I want something easily concealable yet has really good stopping power.

Among many here whom carry full size 1911 myself. Commander size no difference in grip, just slide. Never warmed to Officer's size personally.

I do use a Keltec P-11 to fill a niche, thin and carries easy, Glock 26 used by many here, a bit thicker. I'd go with a J frame ...but this is the autoloader forum...

I can't really vote either, I split time between glock 27 and mk9, with a little S&W 442 revolver thrown into the mix too. You will probably find more and more folks going for the ultra light stuff, I have been there and I'm back to my original heavier carry guns. Winter brings out the Kimber combat carry ;) ........tom

I carry a full size 1911. If I was going to carry something smaller it would be a Glock 30 or a Sig P220.

Hrmmm...

No full-size 1911's on the poll? Guess I gotta go with the G29, then.

:) Tamara, I have a 1911 already hon and honestly love it. I am looking for something a little smaller to carry everyday while at work (we are a very relaxed software development company but I still want ease of concealment now). The 1911 will always be there on my side in most other places. By the way, would you mind checking out the poll to see why we can't vote? Thanks ;)

Can't vote.
Wouldn't carry any on the list.
No 1911 A1.

I love my Glock 27 in an IWB holster. Completely hidden under a t-shirt.

Of your choices I like the USPc 9. I like the 9mm, easy to use effectively & you can carry alot of them. I also like the full grip (I don't like it when my pinky hangs off the end of the grip).

By saying I can't vote I really meant I could not choose one gun, but after thinking about it I voted glock 27, lately that has been my most constant companion and I love the great size/power/controlability combination.....tom

I can carry my full size USP9 quite easily. A good strong belt and an Uncle Mike's IWB suede holster are all I need to do it.

That said, I'd choose the USPc in either 40 or 9mm. ;)

1911 Govt. Model here also. I'm looking for a CCO though with it's Commander slide and Officer's grip.

Out of the list, the only one's I'd consider are the Kahrs.

Thin is most important to me. Slide length isn't that big a deal and grip length can be dealt with by canting in the holster.

SIG P220. About the same size as a Colt Commander, so it's on the big side, but smaller than a full size 1911. A P239 is next on my list though.

I voted G19 here, for two reasons: My Hi Power isn't listed, and the G19 frame size is my favorite Glock Frame.

If I had stopped to thunk a bit, I would have voted G27, with full cap G23 mags and the mag extensions. That combo gives me a round butt G23 grip, and a tad shorter barrel for a tad quicker sight picture.

I'd like to try out that G29 though, and yeahh how come the G30 isn't listed ????? ;)

O.K. I will play, but I did not vote!

My recommendation for a large bore CCW weapon remains
to be the world class .45 CALIBER SIG-SAUER P220A.

With that said, and lots of good choices from your list;
I would have to go with the 9m/m compact Glock 19. A
close second would be the same make and caliber, in
the sub compact G-26. I just can't get real excited about
.40 caliber weaponary.:uhoh: :D

Best Wishes,

I carry an MK40 in the summer, or when I'm playing drums. disappears completely. in the winter, or any time it's cool enough to wear an extra garment, I carry my namesake. I hear everyone saying they carry a 1911A1 year-round. I could probably do that, once I get one, but the Kahr is still easier, especially when sitting.

If I needed a smaller gun I'd say to find a Colt CCO or equivalent design (4-4.25" barrel, Officer Model frame). My inclination would be to carry the big ol' 1911 where possible... the double-stack guns on your list would probably conceal WORSE than the 1911.

What else can be said? These are the slimmest full power handguns on the market today. Only .765" across steel and 1.065" across wood. All 1911 controls including full size grip safety.

Aided by and undercut trigger guard and front strap STIppling, these firearms transfer most of the recoil to the heel of your hand so you get very little muzzle rise when you can least afford it.

Incorporated in this unique, self defense firearm, are STI's Patented trigger assembly and all the 1911 style trigger group parts.

The BLS9 and BLS40 sport a 3.4" barrel and full size grip for those with extra large hands or those who want full 1911 capacity.

Due to the number of guns currently on order and our continuing commitment to deliver in the time frames promised, we are suspending the acceptance of any orders for this model until further notice. Please bear with us while we play "catch up". Thank You

If you'd posted the Smith & Wesson CS9, you'd have gotten a surprising # of responses. Ditto the SIG P239.

Of your choices: Glock 19 or SA XD 3" 9mm.

I carry a Glock 26, or CZ75B, or SA XD 4" 9mm, or CZ P-01.

None of the above, actually.

My preference would be a full-size Kahr K9.

I don't care much for Glocks, and the mini-Kahrs are too small for me.

I DEFINITELY don't like the USPs.

If I had to do the selection process again, though, I'd be VERY tempted by a Sig 225. I always have been, but have never been able to locate one when I could afford it.

Another option would be an older S&W 3913. Anyone who knows me knows that I don't think a lot of the S&W lineup of semi-autos. Except, that is, for the 3913 and the 4506. I've had GREAT experiences with those two models.

I've solved the problem, though, by choosing an S&W 042 Centennial Airweight as my primary CCW gun.

I couldn't vote in the poll...

You seem to have "size" issues among your selections. I agree with Mike Irwin on this one. The full size (or "medium) K9/K40 would make the most sense. These firearms conceal much easier than some of the compact guns you mentioned and still provide "full-power" punch.

I have a Kahr E9 that I just got back from Kahr a couple of days ago. It needed a ramp polishing, and new recoil spring, and now she is as reliable as my SIGs (can't believe I just said that)!

God Bless!
