Last time I looked Wally World was selling bulk packs for around 11-13 bucks. Still not bad, up a couple of bucks from a few years ago, but no big deal. I too stocked up when ammo was going up faster than anything else. I bought several thousand rounds which ought to last me quite awhile.

I know I shoot more .22 recently than I did before. Can't say I mind it though, still have a fun day at the range for $10.

Ya my local Wally world just took the price of Remingtons to $16 a brick. O well that's still way cheaper than any other cartridge.:(

When I started shooting in 1948 a brick of Remington 22 LR cost 4.70 plus tax. Today it is about 14 to 15 dollars. Not bad when the nicest home in town was 14 thousand and you get a new truck to 900. Glad ammo did not inflate at the same rates of other items.

I wonder what centerfire ammo was in 1948 compared to today?

Every time I go into walmart I buy 3 bricks of the federal bulk stuff. Most of my shooting is now with 22lr. I try and buy 3 bricks of 22 for every brick that I shot to help build up supply.

I purchased a 22lr dedicated upper from spikes tactical for my ar. The upper has already payed for itself with the amount of trigger time I get now compared to before.

Yeah... Wal Mart just bumped bulk packs up to where it no longer makes sense for me to shop there. My local gun shop has bulk packs of Blazer .22 for $15.
FREEDOM !!!!!!
Im betting that lots of folks are buying/shooting .22's right now. Kinda like they were buying Prius' over the summer of '08. Now they cant move them off the lots.

I'm going to buy a 10/22. Is a basic model good enough by itself, or should I buy some upgrades for it? What about the brand of hi cap clips.

I just got a 10/22 that I have been using to shoot cheaply, and practice my fundamentals.
The basic carbine is good enough for me. Upgrades that I did were a Volquartsen hammer to lower the trigger pull, an exact edge extractor, which made it 100%reliably eject Wal Mart Federal bulk(it was probably 80-90% before that), and a VQ bolt buffer which made it quieter.
I also ended up bedding the action with some epoxy, floating the barrel, and removing the barrel band. I love to tinker and tweak, so the 10/22 is great for this. I also added tech-sights, which are a lot better than the stock sights, although those weren't horrible.
I'd shoot it as is and see how it runs, and upgrade when and if necessary.

I'll continue to shoot mostly .22 LR out of my long guns, and shoot my cast bullet reloads out of my .45 ACPs. I'm parking my centerfire long guns in the safe, and only taking them out on occasion. Let the ammo companies keep their overpriced ammo and reloading components.

In case the ammo companies haven't noticed people are having a hard enough time paying their bills right now, and just praying they don't lose their jobs. Ammo sales are going to drop off just like most other products that aren't necessities of life. Paying 12 bucks for a box of .223 won't be real high on the priority list as times continue to get tougher this year.

Once all the post election, Obakarama buying fury tapers off, the ammo companies had better start cutting prices or else they can watch their stuff collect dust on the shelves.

2009 forecast is bleak from the experts. Hope they will be wrong.

You might want to consider starting your own thread. :)

I just bought Federal bulk pack at Wal-Mart yesterday for $13.48.

Shooting .22lr can be fun, but cribbage and backgammon are fun too -- and like .22lr shooting, are not the same game as centerfire rifle marksmanship. Next we'll hear from the bb gun guys about how .22lr is too pricey, so they have been shooting bbs. Then someone will talk about the great rubber band gun they saw at a show.

Guys, I like to shoot .22lr and I like to do a lot of other things -- but those things are no substitute for long distance centerfire rifle marksmanship.

If you can even buy 22lr at walmart you are lucky, they have told me there warehouse has been out for 3+ weeks now. I went to 3 walmarts last week and only 22 ammo was CB shorts (in all 3) and dynapoints in small boxes at one store. Bought the Federal bulk packs at a gunshow here instead, $4 more per brick, but they have them at least.

I have been shooting way more .22lr lately, its the only way I can afford to keep on shooting. Federal 550 bulk pack for $14 just keeps looking better and better!

My Walmart in Burleson Tx has a big batch of Federal 550 count bulk packs. I just got back from there so they are lighter by 1100 rounds.
