XD + Lead bullets?

All -

I have several Springfield XD's chambered .45 ACP and 9mm and shoot them far more than anything else. I'm new to reloading and have been hesitant to shoot lead for the simple fact that I never have - but to truly reap the cost savings benefit, I know I'll end up shooting/casting lead.

Does anyone shoot lead bullets in theirs?
How do they do? How bad do they lead?
Which brand/weight/shape bullet seems to work the best?

Eventually I'll be casting my own using wheel weights, do the Lee Tumble Lube and Liquid Alox work well with the XD's?

Andy

You'll find plenty of discussion on this topic over at XD Talk, but in a nutshell, XDs seem not to like to feed SWCs, although many have no problem with them. The consensus seems to be the RN and RNFP lead bullets work best. As for leading, I would suspect XDs are no more prone to it than any other gun; just don't push your lead too fast, or use gas checks.

P.S. This info concerns .45ACPs; can't speak to other calibers. There is an online vendor (Missouri Bullets) who makes a .452 bullet just for the XD.

I run 125 or 124 grain round-nose or 122 grain RNFP or TC profile hardcast lead slugs in my XD9Service and have no problems at all.
