RE: NPS Concealed Carry In Natl Parks

So, does anyone know if this new rule change will take place on the 9th?

I called some natl parks at their headquarters in the respective states, and nobody knows. They said maybe? ***?

Though the Brady Campaign has sued for an injunction, to my knowledge no such thing has been granted so the rule is to take effect in those states that will be affected.

National Parks/National Wildlife Refuges (NWF)
On January 9, 2009 carry in National Parks and National Wildlife Refuges is legal if you can legally
carry a concealed firearm in the state the National Park or National Wildlife Refuge is located in. Carry
in any buildings owned by the federal government (Which would be all buildings in most cases) in
National Parks/National Wildlife Refuges is illegal. Other federal laws ban the carrying of firearms in
federally owned buildings. The states can pass Laws/Rules/Regulations to ban the carrying of firearms
in National Parks/National Wildlife Refuges if they wish. The new Federal Code for this change is
below.
Title 36 Chpt. 1 Part 2 § 2.4 Weapons traps and nets.
(h) Notwithstanding any other provision in this Chapter, a person may possess,
carry, and transport concealed, loaded, and operable firearms within a national park area
in accordance with the laws of the state in which the national park area, or that portion there of, is
located, except as otherwise prohibited by applicable federal law.
Chapter 50 Chapter 1 Part 27 § 27.42 Firearms.
(e) Notwithstanding any other provision in this Chapter, persons may possess,
carry, and transport concealed, loaded, and operable firearms within a national wildlife
refuge in accordance with the laws of the state in which the wildlife refuge, or that
portion thereof, is located, except as otherwise prohibited by applicable federal law.

We've only got one National Park (Acadia) in our state (so far -- thank God; the Mass-wholes wanted to turn most of Maine into some misbegotten "North Woods Park").

I don't know if Mount Desert Island will have seen so much packing since rumrunning days. But I'll be there bright and early when the sun rises on Mount Cadillac the ninth of January --

--- accordingly, I will be the FIRST MAN TO CARRY IN A NATIONAL PARK.
