A Baker rifle is a wonderful gun! How bad is it?

You might be able to just clean it up and it'll be fine. You can removed some surface rust with 0000 steel Wool soaked in Liquid Wrench. Works pretty well. You can also removed the lock and clean it up inside.

You can find people who will bring the gun back to nearly new. Cost? It varies, but it can take a big bite out of $5 grand. Of course it depends upon the condition of your Baker Rifle.

A Baker rifle is just a wonderful gun, with a great history. I have two 1816 Springfields, one in flint and the other a conversion to Percussion. I shoot them both. I'll bet that Baker would be fun to shoot too.....be a bit careful however. If you shoot it tie it to an old tire and stand back and pull the trigger with a string for the first shot. You can ruin your Baker rifle....and do a job on yourself.

If you're in Oregon, go to Ron Scott.

If you're in Colorado, then Jack Brooks.

If in Kentucky, Hershel House.
