Take your garden variety good ol' boy 45 colt cowboy gun...

http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/upload2/4934095-vaquero_1.JPG

Add some Hornady SST muzzle loader bullets...

http://blackpowderbullets.com/images/300_1.jpg

Stuff the bullets in some empty cases to check maximum over all length...

Home built rotary rocket launcher?

I see you...

Play peek-a-boo with the bad guy...

The bullets are now sitting on top of 26 grains of H110. Taking these pictures again would be a bad idea. :what:

Don't put these loads in your cowboy guns unless you like bodily injury. Keep 'em in the real Vaqueros and big Rugers.

Kind of looks like my .357 new Ruger Vaquaro with Hornady's LevRevolution rounds loaded in it, only your .45 makes it look like they are on steroids!:D

"Red onez go bedder" :scrutiny: Someone had to say it.

When I saw the title of this thread my first thought was a silver rattle snake inlaid in the grip and some Hollywood "notches". Then I thought, nah maybe the shoulder stock attachment Lee Van Cleef was fond of.

THEN the answer came to me:

Put it in the hands of an Italian actor with a slightly out of sync soundtrack. :D

Because NO ONE was as evil as Indio.

Horndy does show a 265 gr bullet in .430" with two cannelures. I'm sure you can stuff 'em into a 44 revolver.

I will tell you that a cannelure wouldn't work for mine. The bullets are set all the way out to the end of the cylinder. OAL is MUCH longer than accepted for 45 Colt.
The crimp is grabbing the base of the ogive. It is not possible to set these bullets any deeper and still have them fit in a standard length Colt case.
You could probably stretch them out a touch for a lever gun but then they would be longer than the cylinder in the Vaquero.
Perhaps the 44 will have different proportions.

you can get yellow tiped (thompson center), blue tiped (barnes). or brown tipped (scorpion) and i thought i saw someplace white tipped pointed bullets all in 45 caliber. what i personally do not know is how close 26" barrled muzzel loader velocities are to 45 lc velocities out of a 6" barrel. if the velocity is a lot lower, it may be like shooting a pointy fmj. although, it still looks mighty bad!

Huh,

All I was going to suggest was to spray pint the gun with flat black paint and wrap the grips with black electricians tape,,,

Moose, I've seen those other ML bullets. They're more expensive than the Hornady.
I don't have any specs to find out what diameter they are. I would assume either .452 or .454 but you never know.

:) It looks so prefectly evil, I love it. Image John Wayne's line in Chisum to the horse rustlers (Just lead) and pictures those bullets. That makes me feel warm and fuzzy

Do you think they'd go with my .44?

or would it be TOO scary? :)

Hornady makes the bullets in .430" so I think they'd be fine in the 44.

I bought one box of 250 gr and one of 300 gr. They're all loaded up and ready to test on Saturday.
I'll have to run some through the lever gun too.

With 20 per box (25 round bonus box of 300s) there aren't enough to be thorough but I should have a nice trial run.

Just kidding those look cool.I try to keep 45 Colts below the Uberti distruct zone, but I might have to try those in my 44.

If you only load the "lipstick bullets" for the Vaquero (assuming older stronger model) then it's pretty easy to keep 'em out of the Uberti.
Are the cylinders the same length? If the Uberti is shorter that would solve any problems.
These loads are at the end of the cylinder by necessity. Poke 'em back any deeper and they would be too deep to crimp. If they stuck out more than a couple thousandths of an inch farther the cylinder wouldn't turn.

Here's a thought: get a bunch of the different manufacturer's projectiles, with the yellow, red, and blue, and make a kaleidoscope effect!
