The market for these seems to be booming, if this offering is any indication. Admittedly these were an interesting niche in combat shotgun history, but... that interesting??
Good chance to see some pictures, though, if you're interested in such trivia.

That is very...interesting.
I bet it'd look cool on my 1740.

Ah Deerhunter, you'd need 2, they're only selling one. Besides that thing costs as much as a stock 870. By the way, are you selling kits yet?

Ive have always wanted one of those ever since reading about them used in Vietnam on the end of an Ithaca 37. They called it the duckbill shot diverter. I knew if I ever found one for sale I would never be able to afford it.
From the above photos they really seem to fling the spread out fast. Someone desperately needs to start making these things in new production.

Earl,
I found one on eBay a few years ago, mounted on an old Remington 870 Riot Gun barrel (20" polished blue, CYL bore) for $70 total- thus my comment re. the price of this one...

I'd send it off to Vang Comp to see if they couldn't tighten that group up some.
Two things.
One: I'm kidding.
Two: It's so sad that I have to explain that I'm kidding.

I paid a board member $70 for mine and had Kings Armory install it. Of course I didn't get the box to go with it.
Maelstrom,
Why tighten up a perfectly broad pattern:p

Looks like THAT eliminates the 'select slug' option!:barf:

Wouldn't you get the same effect by using S&B buckshot? :p

Actualy, the A&W will still shoot slugs. It's a interesting piece of kit and i have quite a bit of data on them now from some old Shotgun books. They were well thought of by some for being able to increase your chances of making a hit. they were optimized for #4 shot, but also work with 00 or slugs(the only "spreader" I'm familure with that allowed for slugs).
Of course the down side is decreased lethality vs. say this:

Are you crazy? Beyond 15 yards birdshot would spread so much it would kill us all!

we used to call that a ducky or a street sweeper when we used them
in the military back in the day..

Shooting doubles in skeet you could get both birds and save lead! :)

I could see where that might come in handy on a prison yard, doing the birdshot to the lower extremities routine.

Never seen a duckbill that looked like that, neat to see the actual patterns. Hate to see the stress blowing a slug through that would cause the threads--definitely not an "everyday" thing to shoot through it.

Is there a modern equivalent to this or is this market confined to rare, old finds? I'd love to have a similar product on my HD shottie! :D

( Quote) The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
That would get rid of a lot of luggage wouldn't it.

$230? For less than 6 inches of semi-squashed pipe with threads on one end?
I would think any decent machine shop could make one for $50.

I guess you didn't see the one manufactured by Franchi go for over $700

From what I have seen of the Franchi it's a direct copy of the A&W if not made to spec OEM or under license.

You guys that are talking about buying one...you're just thinking about it for the novelty or historical value, right? The actual usefulness of such a device would seem to be ... severely limited.

LMAO, cuz it's so true. I bought some 2 3/4", 9 pellet S&B and couldn't believe the spread I was getting at 5-7 yards. Who needs a squashed pipe?
