One of the better knives for the money, IMHO. They disappeared for a long while, found them again in Wal-Mart today for 20 bucks or so.

Hard to beat a decent sized, reasonably good edge holding and sharpening knife for that amount of $$.

Thoughts?

Many moons ago (late 70's) I bought my dad and brother each one of these as Xmas gifts. They both have and use them still. Brother has his on his belt with rockpick and other geologists tools. They are an excellent buy.

are they still carbon steel like they used to be? or are they crappy stainless like most everything else?
Lottsa folks have never experienced the advantage of using a knife that will rust if neglected but will sharpen up wicked and outcut other knives in that price bracket. My Grandads 100yr old Marble's in 52100 steel is a great hunting knife.
I've got an old sharpfinger around here someplace. never cared for the cheesy plastic "stag" scales but its still a good knife.

The lierature in the blister pack says "high carbon" steel. Too new to let it rust for verification. :D

Yep many moons I too bought a Sharp Finger, about 3 minutes after removing from box figured why the name...band-aid on thumb.:D Still will , but you'll have to take my word...done proved to myself once, but your welcome to test for yourself ;)

Sheath pretty good on the old ones...dunno about newer ones...

The sheath on the one I got is leather with a oil finish. Between the blade and my skin is a piece of plastic (??) or some other hard substance that prevents penetration. Have not worn it to check comfort, but it "looks" OK.

The sharpfinger is the knife of choice in Sonny Barger's new book "Dead in 5 heartbeats". "They were sturdy enough to be all-purpose and cheap enough to leave stuck in some unlucky victim", a ringing endorsement from the main character in the book, Patch Kincade.

As a teenaged deer hunters and professional mumbly-peg players, my whole group carried Sharpfingers, the one fellow that bought a Buck was laughed at until he conformed. Still have mine in my goodie drawer, still razor sharp althought the blade isn't as wide as it used to be.
