I just found out about this thing and have been lusting over it for about a week now. My question to you fellas is what do you think of them, and who has them for less than $120:uhoh:. I am thinking about using this as my EDC/defensive knife.

good knife
If you're thinking about carrying a knife for self defense then you shouldn't use if for day to day cutting tasks since it is likely to be dull when you need it.
If you're going to carry a knife as an EDC tool then picking one that would serve also for SD is much easier.
As to looking for the best price, just google it and then search under "shopping". You'll get an array of "best" prices. Just be aware that the cheapest price may not be the "best" since availability, delivery, shipping cost, and customer service all factor into that cheap price. If you want the best price deal with the best dealers we've discussed here.

I am a Spyderco fan, but I flat out love the axis lock. I carry my Griptilian more than any of my Spydies almost entirely because of my fanboy love affair with the axis lock.

I've got mine just a short time after they became available. It's been carried ever since. Great knife.

I have owned a 940 with green scales for 9 years now. Although I don't carry it as much as I used to (I rotate between a bunch of knives), it had held up to daily and yearly carry/use without developing any noticeable blade play, plus axis remains slick but solid. Mine had the original 154CM steel and has always held the edge for a very long time but sharpened easily. I'm sure the new S30V steel will hold up even better.
Whatever price you pay for it, you will think it worthwhile after you carry one for a few months.

i had one of those when they first came out. i wish i'd known they were illegal in NJ; i went to Great Adventure, and it was confiscated by park security. they said i could claim it when i left, but when i went to get it, they said they checked with local PD, and it was illegal. i could leave without it, or claim it, and risk arrest. it still pisses me off thinking about it.

What in the world makes it illegal?

I'm betting one of the park security employees has a new knife now, and they were bluffing.

943 in 154CM for about 6-7 years EDC. Terrific knife. Show me a better action. Very fast and really smooth. Benchmade is a good Oregon company..

To prove a point, I just used my Benchmade 940 to cut-down a pallet of heavy cardboard boxes into ~10"x20" panels in order to fit them into the recycle bin. Knife was still sharp enough to shave hair off my arms afterwards (with only a slight bit of "drag").

Well I broke down today and and bought one, thanks for the advice I love it. I bought the 940 with the satin blade non serrated that is made out of 154cm steel. I wanted the s30v steel but I have never been a patient person:D

I bought a knife every 5 or 6 months trying to find THE knife. I picked up a 940 used on ebay for $70. Haven't bought a knife since. as a lefty, I saw axis is the only way to go.

I'm a skeert of S30V. Never tried to sharpen it, but I understand it can be very difficult and some say even un-doable in the field. My EDC has an ATS34 blade which I finally sharpened (easily) after nearly a year.
