you killed a doe with a 9mm? from how far? were you actually hunting deer actively? just curious
Stephen A. Camp
December 27, 2002, 02:28 AM
Hello. Distance was 40 yards with the deer almost exactly broadside and unaware I was there. This was the 4th I've killed with a 9mm, but passed on many others when anything was "wrong" or made me think I couldn't hit the animal correctly.
Yes, I was specifically hunting deer. I had the pistol if any close shots presented themselves, but also had a .30-06 at hand.
We have no minimal power requirement in Texas for handguns as do other states, but I still don't shoot with any caliber unless I'm pretty well sure I can make the shot; any doubt, I don't fire.
Best.

Hello, and thank you. Got another with this Dan Wesson Patriot .45 using a 200 gr XTP over 7.2 gr Unique. She was quartering toward me. You can see the entry hole and it exited in the ribs behind the opposite shoulder. Both this deer and the one shot with the 9mm STI received coup de grace shots which is why there's some blood around the head area.
I've butchered the meat that was obtained with these favored 1911 pistols and have plenty for myself. Some's been ground up and soon to be delivered to some folks having a pretty tough time right now. They like it and will eat it.
This was a much easier shot, only about half the distance as the other one.
Best.

Old and new...an "as issued" 1943-production over one of my own production Para P14's. What a difference 53 years of fine-tuning make (I built that one in '96, now the same gun would be on an STI frame with a Novak rear sight).

We are going to try again.
It worked! All are .45's except the Caspian. It's a 10mm.
Adjustments to the stock condition include Navidrex Micarta stocks, 18.5 Wolff recoil spring, Wolff FP spring, CP Buffs, a little bit of two-tone work on the flats, beveled the magwell, polished the FLGR, and edge-matched and polished the factory Springfield funnel. Also dehorned the bottom-most row of "spikes"on the 20 LPI frontstrap as mag indexing was just a bit more painful than it had to be.
Everything else is as if left the factory- and it works extremely well, now approaching 2600 rounds without a single issue of any kind, still tight and holding ~2-2.5"at 25 POA/POI when I do my part.
It has several other stablemates but this is the only one with a magwell.
Future, after arrival of a Springfield Professional I have on order, may bring C&S ignition parts, dump the FLGR, and perhaps a trip to Robar. But nothing until it displays other than the excellent performance I have had so far.

Pic 1 are some figured ebony grips I bought from a seller dude47jp. You can see his grips here (http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=dude47jp) I've bought a few pairs from him. He doesn't do checkered grips though.
Pic 5 are Blind Hogg's G10 grips. He recently moved and I don't know if he's started production back up yet. Here (http://blindhogg.com/) is his website.
I'm particularly fond of black, gray and black and gray grips. Another material you may be interested in is linen micarta. Almost has a carbon fiber appearance to it. I really like those from the seller on eBay. They're probably about my favorite grips.

November 23, 2003, 07:53 PM
Hi MoparMike! Yes I do like the Llama. It's a Max I C/F. All steel, commander size. I bought it new for about 200 bucks ( about 4 years ago). After I brought it home I detail-stripped it and basically polished everything internal. Now the trigger is acceptable.
I have probably shot 800 to 1000 rounds through it and it has never given me any problems. I have heard a lot of negative comments about Llama, but this one works just fine. Maybe I was just lucky. It's definitely a lot of gun for the money.
A SA Chamoion. One of my Fave pistols ever. Shoots great and has been 100% reliable. Pictured with My fave IWB a Milt Sparks Summer Special 2 and a Milt Sparks IWB Double mag pouch. I didn't realize how worn that holster was getting until I took that pic. Not the best picture but you get the idea.
