i've gotten into some arguments on youtube over the hunting issue...done pretty good holding my own and proving them wrong, but i just wanted some other ideas (biblical, practical, or scientifically) to express why it's a good thing and why we do it. I have always been a passionate hunter and reading these people's posts (who rarely go outside) make me feel like i'm talking to a post:banghead:. Ideas? thanks

Umm, stop talking to posts? If their minds are made up you are wasting your time. Focus on those who are smart and reasonable. The instant they say something idiotic like "I feel that..." make them quantify and prove it. When you remove their emotions from the process it is pretty hard to lose an argument. Otherwise the conversation goes on forever to nowhere.

You are trying to debate things on youtube.
That's your problem.

Youtube is a feeding hole for ignorance.
We all know why we hunt, why we choose our gear, and (for the most part) our limits.
I'd rather a deer die by a 30 caliber to the face than have a horrible disease that will cause it suffering for weeks, even months.

my conversion strategy is to take venison to work and give it to my friends and others who are willing to try. I take it to barbecues and when my kids friends come round i will often serve it then. I tell people what it is and the dicussion normally developes from there, it is a good way to do it. I feel we should all do our bit to spread the word!

Find the you tube videos of the cars being trashed by deer collisions. The one with the deer in the engine compartment of a BMW or Mercedies on the Auto Bahn is a good one.

What we have on our side is that the vast majority of folks ain't givin' up their T bones and hamburgers. If they're salad eaters, you waste your time. Let 'em die off from malnutrition.
If man were an herbivore, he'd have a ruminant stomach.

I point out that hunters and gardeners are the only do-it-yourselfers in providing food. All others hire somebody else to do the scut work, to get their hands all icky-poo.
That includes those same hunters and gardeners, when they shop at a grocery or eat at a restaurant--but at least we're aware of what we're doing.

Have you heard the latest from PETA? They're on an anti-fish eating thing now. They've named fish "sea kittens", why, I don't know. I guess to get the public to see fish as warm and fuzzy. Well, some of 'em will put a hurt on you and gafftop are slimy as hell, hardly fuzzy, but it's all an illusion of course. These idiots put a FISH above a human, I guess. Well, I tell ya, fish, ducks, deer, hogs, I don't care, I eat 'em all.
It just sorta shows you how kooky these folks are and IMHO any sane, logical person that hears this crap will think so, too. Lots of folks like their fried catfish at the restaurant that might think of themselves as against hunting. Some people (I've known a few) are against hunting, but fish. People tend not to think of fish as animals and that's probably the reason for the new PETA campaign. But..."sea kittens"?
I'm still wondering why someone would yank a potato out of the ground that sustains it. I mean, that has to hurt having your roots pulled off, your leaves chopped off, and getting chopped up for french fries like that or stuffed in a 375 degree oven. OUCH!

Meat-vs-veggies....
Ask a vegan why mans digestive system is the same as other carnivores.....and not like herbivores. Man is a meat eater, otherwise he'd have four stomachs...

From their website on why:
Of course, if you look at it another way, what all this really means is that fish need to fire their PR guy—stat. Whoever was in charge of creating a positive image for fish needs to go right back to working on the Britney Spears account and leave our scaly little friends alone. You've done enough damage, buddy. We've got it from here. And we're going to start by retiring the old name for good. When your name can also be used as a verb that means driving a hook through your head, it's time for a serious image makeover. And who could possibly want to put a hook through a sea kitten?
Fish aren't even animals!

Well, yeah, fish are animals. but, not warm and fuzzy. LOL! Worms are animals, locusts are animals, scorpions are animals, mosquitoes, cock roaches, mice, killer bees, centipedes, box jellies, all animals. Where do you stop with this? You going to arrest someone for slapping a mosquito? Don't put that deep woods off on, you're depriving a "Texas canary" of it's meal! Poor little critter, Texas canaries have to eat, ya know!
Okay, I did make that one up.

To me it seems as if the vast majority of anti hunters are people who don't spend any time outdoors, or at least not in the "real outdoors" (ie they go hiking, or to a campsite with many other people). I don't know where some people seem to get their ideas, but I wouldn't be shocked if many people thought that deer and rabbits frolick together in the woods, and have a friendly skunk they pal around with. Whenever someone talks about "shooting bambi" its probably a good indication that they are soft in the head. Bambi doesn't exist. Deer are creatures that will out eat whatever they have to in order to sustain their lives. They compete directly with each other for resources (oh the horror... quick, someone give them a copy of Das Kapital), and couldn't care less if someone tries to hug them or not.

From PETA. Well, so long as I eat catfish and sharks, I'm not picking on sea kittens? They don't have scales, ya know. When I drive a hook through a 4 ft + black tip, I usually drive a 158 grain JHP though his head, too, so I can get my hook back and avoid losing my hand. Besides, grilled shark is pretty awesome.

Sea kittens? I guess I'm safe, it's at least 1000 miles to any "sea" from here.
I catch my yummy trout from streams I can usually step across (Art calls my trout "bait" :) ).

My friend, that made me laugh so hard I inadvertently passed some wind !
Cod.
It's the new kitten.
Hehe.
Many of the fine creatures on this planet are made for eating. If that wasn't the case we would all have a built in straw or proboscis and we'd spend our lives drinking aphid secretions.

Sea Kittens. Honestly. For those of you who weren't fortunate enough to grow up on a farm, do you know what happens when you scrub a cow squeaky clean and turn it loose in a field? It finds a muddy spot and goes to town.

Apparently its more humane for an animal to be ripped to shreds by a large cat with huge teeth. An instant death via gunshot? OH THE HORROR!

i thought you guys were having a laugh with me.... I followed the link... yes they are promoting sea kittens. what a load of boll***s!
This morning i went out into my frosty garden and i saw a sparrowhawk hunting among the gardens. these fools at peta can't seem to understand nature is red in tooth and claw. they seem to believe that animals frolic about in the woods together as was mentioned above.
I feed the birds in my garden, they come to the peanuts etc i put out. I like to see them. I saw a greenfinch on them yesterday. But i know that if that finch is too slow that sparrowhawk will eat it. if that sparrowhawk is too slow it will die.
We are not so far removed from this equation. but we are removed enough for some of the people in our colonies to fully allow others to do the dirty work of food production.

I have been known to respond to the question, "How can you kill those defenseless animals?" with the serious sounding response, "It's very hard. There are people I'd rather shoot." End of conversation.

I wonder if those at PETA know how much pesticide is sprayed on their leafy greans, or howmany feild mice I plowed under buy the tractor. If it was not ment for animals to kill and die, then mice would life forever, and eventualy learn spanish an by a place is Baja, or for that matter detroit.

Since the issue of fish has been brought up I feel that it is interesting to note that hunting game in America has been fairly well managed as a resource, unlike the global fishing industry. I am not that old and have seen a large decline in Atlantic fishing from the end of my fishing rod. Killing and eating a deer or other animal is many times better than supporting the poorly regulated global fishing industry.

I agree.
IMO: The best thing you can do is take a kid or a friend hunting or to the range.
Many today have no clue about how the get the hamburgers/etc. they love so much and they are convinced that guns are for "killers" on t.v.
Most will enjoy the outdoor experience so much; they will forever be changed!:)

In response to the OP
"DO NOT ENGAGE THE RETARDS!"
Easily said, not so easily done. I've engaged the retards (not on you tube, but elsewhere it was Thursday in fact) while seriously P*ssed off at something someone said that was just a plain lie from the usual GC standbys. It resulted in 2 mails, one quite a long treatise on why they were wrong... The next explaining apologizing for attempting to hold a logical conversation with sheeple, since I was under the mistaken impression that since the Greeks we as a race have strongly favored rational thought over emotional propaganda.
200 posts later there's still flames coming in. Pain is a good teacher :D
