" A bill to improve the national database aimed at preventing felons and the mentally ill from purchasing guns was announced jointly yesterday by two senators, a Democrat and a Republican.
Sen. Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat, is a leading gun-control advocate, and Sen. Larry E. Craig, Idaho Republican, is a National Rifle Association member."

Anything that Sen Schumer approves of is automatically suspect:

"Advocates predict the bill would add 35 million new records to the system."

...and this will help a system that fails because of slow response time, how?

It proposes to add mental health records on top of whatever else, too. No number yet assigned, but you know what to do

By the way... "Mentally ill" is a very broad term... lets be explicit here.

Virtualyl every woman who has had a kid has been "mentally ill". As has anyone who's ever had a period of addiction to a substance. As had anyone who's gone thru typical teenager depression, rebeliousness, etc.

Most people who have mental ilnesses get over them-- such as post-partum depression, panic attacks during a stressful period (like divorce), or emotional breakdowns that are temporary.

The goal of the gun grabbers is to whittle down the number of gun types that can be owned and to start whittling down the people who can own them. This "mentally ill" thing is a redherring-- its not even a problem that actual crazy people are getting guns.

Its just an excuse to prevent anyone who's been admitted to a hospital for a breakdown from getting them-- nevermind that they may be perfectly competant and healthy.

Hah! It would be the perfect catch-22.

They would claim that anyone whom would knowingly WANT to have a firearm MUST be mentally ill! They will then proceed to prove that 99 percent (there was that ONE accident that everyone has heard of) of all firearms deaths are caused by guns owned by insane people, thereby proving that no sane person would want to have one.
