I usually go to half-cock,then drop the loading lever, then pull out the cylinder pin, then slightly rotate the cylinder in it's revolving direction while gently pushing it out.Does everyone do it this way or am I working at too hard?

Carry two guns. It's faster and easier.

I'm with Mykeal on that...

But I do it jus' as you do, when inserting a snug(new) cylinder I bring the hammer forward slightly pull the hammer back a hair to retract the hand flush with the frame as it will come forward some at the halfcock.

It seems a little easier to me to:
1. Drop lever.
2. Pull Pin.
3. Pull hammer back just a little and the cylinder drops out.

Putting it back:
1. pull hammer back a little, insert cylinder, place hammer on uncapped nipple.
2 & 3 Pin & then lever

I rotate the loaded cylinder CW as I install it. It well move the hand and slide right in, works for me.

I also insert cylinder from the right side while turning CW under a halfcocked hammer. I usually have the caps already in place. I know, shouldn't do that! These 58s can be loaded quicker than a S&W with speed loaders. That is really saying something for mid 19th Century technology!

I've done both ways & am a bit faster when I:

Drop lever
Pull pin
pull hammer slightly
Remove cylinder from right side
Swap empty to loaded cylinder
Insert into frame on the right side
Slightly pull hammer back to allow alignment
Reinsert pin
Replace the lever

I've done this in under 10 seconds making sure that I insert the empty into the pouch before pulling the loaded cylinder but I would imagine that in the 1870's I would have just dropped the empty on the ground & loaded a fresh cylinder in under 7 seconds.
