Is there any sort of maintenance I should be doing for my safes? One is about 15 years old and the other is about a year. Both are quality units with mechanical dial locks (S&G's).

I just got thinking about this today.

Thanks

You're due.

Mechanical locks should be serviced once a year in commercial use, and within 5 years in residential use. Lubrication is the most important reason for service.

Honestly, most people don't service their locks at all. They wait until they break, drill the safe, and replace the lock.

If you need me to point you to a qualified safe tech in your area, let me know.

Thanks for the advice. I will gladly take your advice on who I should use. I live in Katy Texas or the West side of Houston.

Also what should I expect to pay for this and what specifically will they do?

I ended up doing it myself. Very simple. I also installed an electronic lock.
I love this lock, very fast to open and close.
Heres a link to a maintenance question I had a while ago and our member a1abdj answered as always right on. Thanks a1abdj!

You have a very good safe guy located in Houston.

Ken Foo owns K&S Security, and can be reached at (281) 481-8680.

In the St. Louis area, you would be looking at $100 to $150. Prices do tend to vary across the country though.

Many safe company warranties require that you have your safe lock serviced by a pro in order to maintain the warranty.

Thank you. I will get after it later this week.
