Hi from the communist state of dirty jersey! :banghead:

I am new to THR as well as gun ownership. I'm looking forward to learning how to be a safe firearm owner and picking through the strict laws so I can stay legal, too. I'm set up for orientation at a local shooting club next Sunday so I can learn how to handle my 12 and 20 gauge Mossbergs.

I know I'll have lots of questions, so thanks for your patience in advance! :)

Hi comrade! Welcome to gun ownership in one of the three worst places to own one.

You will do fine. The laws are not so bad. As long as you follow them. If you don't, well, then you feel real bad.:)

Joking aside, I highly suggest you stick with the club and get to know the people that go there. Also, get to know the range /safety officers and find out when they will be around. They can be the best source for info for someone new. Just don't feel afraid to ask even what you think is the dumbest question.

Making new friends at the club will give you the chance to talk to others and find out how things are done and interact.

Thanks dad, I think that's great advice. I'm definitely afraid of looking like a doofus, but I'll try to ask the right questions. :)

I'm submitting my handgun permit forms tomorrow, so I get to wait another 3-4 months for THAT to be approved.

My wife is from Vineland.

Don't you need to register with the state and get a permit before posting here?

Welcome to the board. Fellow NJ subject here. THR is a great resource for all things gun related. You should also check out the NJCSD (http://www.njcsd.org) and the NJCSD forums (http://www.njcsd.org/forum) for a more local take on owning firearms in NJ. It's a bunch of folks trying to get things changed in NJ. You'll also get some good info regarding laws and such.

Welcome aboard. I went over the wall in 1992, fleeing the PRK (People's Republic of **********) so I feel your pain.

Just remember, the law in NJ is if they have not denied you within 30 days, then they MUST issue permits or firearms cards. Getting them to do the paperwork and go ahead and issue it can be a pain, tho. I did not have a problem, many years ago, but you can lean on them after 30 days. (make it 40 to be sure)
