All the great ballistics I've read about this new cartridge are out of a 3+ inch barrel, but I really like the SP101 in the shorter 2" barrel.

Has anyone tested for velocity or penetration from the shorter barrel? Does it loose too much velocity?

We gave up. Finally got a SP101 in 327. Couldn't find ammo for the Customer that bought it. A second Customer ordered a SP101 now we can't get the gun. A few weeks back one of are Distributors had Charter Arms 327s. I checked Friday they had none in stock. The first Customer that bought the SP traded it off because he said he finally found one box off ammo but it cost too much. We still haven't seen the ammo we have had on order.:cuss::banghead::fire: This is in the Cleveland, Ohio area.

I just bought a Ruger SP101 in .327 fed mag from my shop. The shop sold 5 of these guns in one week, that is how hot the .327 chambering is for them, customers seem to want the gun. Funny thing is, they have a 3" sp101 in .357mag that has sit on the shelf for over a month now, but the .327s all sold out.

One of the coolest parts of this gun is the different ammo you can buy for it. I just picked up some .32 S&W long wadcutters for some target practice, but the shop also had quite a bit of federal .327mag hollowpoints, .32 h&r mag fmj, .32 auto lead round nose and .32 S&W long lead round nose for sale. The federal stuff is a bit less than a buck a round, but its also a "premium defense round" and not really meant for target practice.

I predict you will start to see more practice ammo for sale in 32 h&r magnum and .327 fed mag so the shooter can practice with full house loads. I can tell you this though, the .327 fed mag chambering of this revolver really is a reloader's dream come true. There are so many combinations of bullets/brass/power levels that you can acheive using the sp101 that the reloader can keep busy for years. I'm excited about it.

OK cool, but has anyone chronographed the .327 from a 2 inch barrel. Every review I found was from a 3+ inch barrel. How much velocity does this round loose from a barrel that is 1 inch shorter?

Does Ruger make a gun chambered for this round in a 2" barrel? Does anybody?

Charter Arms has their Patriot model in both a 2.2" and a 4" version. Send an email to them and see if they chrono'd it. I heard rumors of a Taurus version but haven't seen anything on it. Smith and Wesson has announced their J frame but it's a 3".

My .327 SP-101 is a 3 1/16". I've got a 2" .32H&R but I've never bothered to run anything over a chrono for it and I'm not sure why as I've done a bit with my 5.5" Single-Six and my Marlin leveraction. I just haven't had a lot of time to play with loads lately.

lb99 - we'll be testing the .327 Federal Magnum this spring with our full protocols, 18" down to 2" (see my sig). Probably March. Should have results up in April. Doesn't help right now, I know, but it's at least something to look forward to.

Cheers!

Shandan7 - Very cool, and I'm very jealous. My wife asked me "Don't they have anything better to do?". My direct ressponse was "What could be better to do?" If you ever need some help, please let me know.
