IMO: Shoulder holsters are best left to the movie detectives and such.
They are highly uncomfortable, hot, and in the way. You also can't conceal one at all unless you wear a coat 24/7.
A high-ride strong side belt holster on a good heavy belt will carry the longest, easiest. It will also provide the fastest access to the gun.
As for recommending a holster?
You didn't mention what gun you have, so?

I wear a shoulder holster about 4 days a week at work..... of course I'm a detective so, go figure! Anyway, I wouldn't recommend a SH unless it's cold weather, where you can cover it easily with a light jacket or similar clothing. SH's are great if your doing a lot of sitting (like office work or driving) & I am just as fast drawing my gun from my SH rig as I am from my hip holsters. HOWEVER, it takes lots of practice to get there!!!
If your the type of person who won't get a lot of practice at the range drawing and shooting, I would also recommend a hip holster. I usually wear my SH during the colder months and during summer, switch to belt holsters. Besides, if you want a comfortable SH, you will need to buy a good quality one. Basically $140 & up to get one that fits nicely and feels good.
So basically.......stick with a good hip holster.

I also wear both,
the shoulder rig takes some time to get it adjusted "JUST RIGHT"
then after you do , you think....maybe just one more adjustment....
and its back to square one
they can be very comfortable and VERY UN COMFORTABLE depending on adjustments made
I also wear on my hip...depends on my mood I guess
I have a XD.45 Tac

how hard would it be to find and use a holster for a larger fram auto then an xd?
and how hard is it to draw from the hip then put it back in without taking it off?is a middle of back holster as convienant as a hip holster?

Middle of the back is about the most uncomfortable place I've ever carried. You can not get to it sitting and speaking of sitting everytime you do it bangs the gun against your spine. Strong side hip is generally thought to be the best place to carry but as a former police officer I used to wear a SH on a daily basis in detectives. I recommend that whatever you buy you must practise, practise, practise. I don't know what is available for a desert eagle having never owned one but you may have to go custom or nylon for that. As for the Glock most holstermakers cover those.
