Can anyone tell me how to safetly remove a live primer from a .243 case. The neck has been resized incorrectly and needs to be resized.

Just run it slowly up into the sizing/decapping die and it will slide right out. Just don't hit the decapping pin hard and it won't be a problem. If it makes you nervous to do this for the first time, wrap an old towel around the press and decap the case.
Hope this helps.

Earplugs and safety glasses would be a good idea. I have deprimed cases of live primers before without any issue.

many thanks. Slow is the operative word and it works. I couldn't waste once fired cases.

You can keep the primer too. Reuse it in range fodder.

You could remove the decap pin and resize without removing the primer.

If it was me, I would just put it in the gun and shoot it. It will jsut pop and then de-pime it. Also as stated just take the pin out to resize it. Josh

Either raise the decap rod high enough so it doesn't hit the primer or remove the decap pin. Then resize and expand as usual.

IME, slow pressure will not set a primer off.
In case of an accident though, cover any flammables and wear goggles and plugs.
Stay safe!

With most presses, the ram, press frame & die covers everything up with solid steel when the ram is in the up position & knocking the live primer out.
Even in the very unlikely event one did go off, it won't hurt a thing.
In actual fact, taking one out is no more dangerous then putting one in.

just put it in your gun and shoot it
