I have a problem with resizing brass for the 300 WSM. Using RCBS dies, and using Winchester brass it resizes them to where they'll go though the model 70 like you know what through a goose. But when I use Federal brass they get stuck and I need to use a wood mallet to open the bolt...at the base of the shell there is a bright burnish mark, and it measures just a little over .555, I mean like .556. The Winchester brass is .555....I'm running empty brass, just in case your worried about the mallet part..Has anyone else ran into this problem???

Were the Fed and Win Brass both fired from this rifle?

Are you Full Length sizing or Neck sizing?

Has the brass been trimmed to "Trim to Length"?

If you are FL sizing, how did you set-up your FL die?

Once shot brass, shot from the rifle I was testing brass with. Full length resized.
Turned die down 1/4 turn to see if it would help.....but it didn't....

Did the 1/4 turn cause the press to cam over? I mean cam over hard. Are you lubing the inside of the necks so the expander button doesn't pull the shoulder forward?

The 1/4 turn did make it over cam a little harder that I like. I just did it as a test, I usually just have it turn about an 1/8 .....That works real good on the Winchester brass. I didn't lube the inside of the necks... which I'll try.

I just tried a fired case in the rifle it went in and out like it should, maybe I just need to neck size the Federal brass... Thanks for your input...

If a fired case chambers and the same FL sized case does NOT chamber then there is a problem with the die or your die set-up. You would be better off to find the root of the problem then to just neck size the Fed brass.
