View Full Version : Do you buy one brand exclusively?

I'm (still) shopping for my first hand gun and the only ones I am even remotely interested in are the M&P (fullsize or compact, can't decide) 442 or (for fun) the 22a. Is this something I will eventually get over, or have I basically drank the S&W kool aid (and will I choke on the lock? :neener:)?

I don't own one brand exclusively but the more I buy CZ the less I want anything else. Right now the only thing on my want list that isn't CZ is an M1 Carbine.

Handguns, I won't buy anything else

I own a LOT of handguns, and for me the appeal and attraction is the variety. Each is made somewhat uniquely, feels differently in the hand, and some even have unique operating features. What started out as an interest, soon became a hobby, now it's borderline obsession. In fact, I have an appointment with my therapist later this afternoon. Just kidding.

In all seriousness, I really enjoy handguns, they are an interest and hobby that in which the only money that you can't recoup is in the ammo you shoot. Otherwise, gun prices have continued to go up over the years. So, from my prospective (and thank God my wife shares it) you really can't go wrong buying guns. Of course, it helps to know and understand what you are buying and whether or not it's a good/reasonable deal.

There are way too many selections to get hung up on just one brand!

While I have a variety of both semi's and autos....I try to stick with one mfg. for my main guns that will serve as HD/SD - that way grip, trigger, etc. are the same.......

Handguns are like women. They're all beautiful, and if mishandled will kill you dead!

Now that is funny, Doc. I personally like a little variety, though with some platforms, like the glock, there is an advantage in that if you have a 9mm G19 and a G26(compact version) you can use the G19 mags in the G26 at the range or whatever. But there are so many great handguns on the market right now, if I'm going to buy multiples (which unfortunately I have, and continue to do so) then I like a little something different here and there.

For me, not so much brands as types. I don't like striker fired handguns, and I don't like garbage in any style.

.45ACP--only the 1911A1 need apply. Everything else has disappointed.

9mm--Only hi-cap hammer fired DA/SA weapons need apply. Beretta, CZ, or whomever, is secondary.

Revolvers--Only Rugers, Colts, and pre-lock Smiths in .38Sp. or .357 Mag need apply. No foreigners, no big bores or pea shooters.

I buy what I think is the best for my money. I like made in the U.S.A. guns, but that doesn't completely reflect my XD purchase.

I plan to buy more Springfields, Rugers, Kel-Tecs, Berettas, NAAs, LMT, and the list just goes on and on.

No I own a few different reasonably priced brands the average middle income family man with 2 teens can afford without the wife having a fit.

There are too many top-shelf brands that offer different pistols with varying features to pick just one.

As long as it's a well made pistol, I'm good with it if I like how it handles and operates.
S&W, Colt, Beretta, Ruger, High Standard (pre-Houston), Rohrbaugh, Dan Wesson (Monson)... hell, those are all good manufacturers that deserve my and everyone's support, and there's other good ones I just haven't explored yet.

I have seven handguns, a Nagant, it's a fun cheap gun. Two modern S&W revolvers, one is for sale, and four CZ's.
So, yeah, I lean toward one brand for semi autos.

No. Glock, colt, khar, ruger, browning, and more.

There are also some makes that i don't currently own that I would like to get and eventually will.

I will say that I don't ever really see my myself buying an HK pistol (well maybe a P7) because a) they don't really excite me and b) the don't seem to offer me any great advantage over other pistols merely a higher price tag.

I have been shooting handguns for over forty years. I like almost all of them. A quick count of the guns I've kept shows more S&W's(5) then Colts(2) or Rugers(3)or others(4). Last year I traded off my one and only Glock for a M&P 45 it out shot my 1960 series Colt Gold Cup.
I hope you have a good, safe enjoyable time with your new obsession I mean hobby.

I don't stick to one brand. I buy what fits best and what feels best. That said..I loved my Ruger..until the recoil no longer was enough. I love my High Standard 1911 and am quite smitten with my Taurus 445. I am a caliber snob though. In a hand gun (unless a .22 for plinking at the range) I won't even look at anything thing that doesn't start with a .4 :o Mmmmmm recoil!!
On a side note..I think I might have found the first Smith that didn't feel like absolute sh*t in my hand today. That new NightGuard is shweeeeeet.

Revolvers: Rugers almost exclusively

Semi-auto: Non-denominational.

Did get bit by the M&P bug and yes all three are nice.

Depends. For handguns, I generally prefer Ruger. For long guns, I'll go with what I like or whatever seems best.

I don't stick to one brand. I have a selection method that's a little different than most I've seen in this thread so far.

I choose each gun (mostly handguns) I buy based on what it can do for me as a tool. I also try not to cannibalize too much between each gun. For example, one full size auto, one compact auto, one DA .357 revolver, one SA .45 Colt. So I try to not overlap too much including both the gun's characteristics as well as the calibers. The brand doesn't factor into that. I simply pick whoever makes the best (for me) version of what I want.

But once I have all the "holes" in my collection filled I won't mind overlapping one bit.

No.

I buy Baer 1911's but I have a DW RZ since it is 10mm.
I have Dan Wesson Revolvers because they are in 357 Super Mag.
I have Colts that I shoot (python, diamondback and detective special)
I have S&W's I collect (Registered Magnum 38/44's etc).
I have Sigs I shoot, Sig 210's, 229 sports.
I have Springfields to shoot P9 Ultra.
I have H&K's for carry P7PSP's.
And I have a bunch I dont even remember why.

No it is a smattering for me.

In order: Walthers, then Rugers, then Berettas, then Colts, then whatever is on sale and looks good and is something I don't have but really want, then ...

But I do have more Walthers than anything else, which has led to the discovery that you can never own enough Walthers. :)

I've got a half dozen different brands of handguns. I buy what I like and then keep what proves itself to me. I'm not anti anything, I'm willing to give any brand a chance to try out for a slot in my permanent collection.

I like guns that work. I have no brand loyalty. That's why I have Rugers, Colts, CZ's, S&W's, Beretta's,Kimber's,etc....

Ruger revolvers only for me.
For autos, I only like 1911s, and I would love a Colt someday. *sigh*

I would say "No"...
However in revolvers I have owned nothing but S&W.
629, 27, 21, 22... I love N frames.
I DID just win the bid on a taurus M445 .44 special snubby, to match the one my wife carries.
In semi autos I am a 1911 guy, and prefer Rock Islands.
In rifles I prefer savage.
In a pump shotgun I like Mossberg M500s.
I will look at others tho... ;)

i went into pistols with a pretty opened mind and have had the opportunity to shoot a bunch of different kinds, but for some reason I now own 2 sigs.. 229 elite in .40 and 239 in 9mm.

I definitely did not intend that, but they are just such awesome pieces of hardware.

Not so much brand as type in center-fire autos...

f'rinstance, I dont particularly like the polymer striker fired pistols like the Springfield XD and Glocks. I very much prefer a steel or alloy framed hammer-fired like the 1911's and some of the Ruger P-series.

SA revolvers? Ruger only need apply here (for me..some prefer Colts, etc)
