OK I have to admit I have not owned a red dot/reflex sight in years and I am looking for a sight for my Saiga. I was going to go cheap but figured I might as well get a decent sight and not be dissappointed. So these are my choices please let me know of you have experiences and which one would be best. I am going to use it on my Saiga on a side mounted rail for deer hunting and maybe turkey.

If you are willing to come down on the price a bit PM me. I can get a new one for $240 shipped.

With a Saiga, I would do one of three things, in no particular order:

1. Ultimak and full-sized aimpoint on a low ring.

2. Ultimak and Aimpoint Micro on a low mount.

3. Larue's new AK Iron Dot mount combo ($289 for the package, IIRC)

#1 for ultimate toughness, #2 for very tough with very very low weight (no idea how much less tough than #1), #3 for more-than-good-enough and reasonable cost.

Its a Saiga 12 and I have a UTG quick release side mount as the Saiga 12 design is not rail add-on friendly with the latest iron site design. I am thinking of going with the Aimpoint Micro or the Trijicon Tripower. Thanks for the suggestions.

of the ones you listed there,i like the aimpoint compC3 on a good side rail.the utg you mentioned should be good to go IF every thing is straight.i dought the rail on your saiga will not be right.

Yes it looks like it is straight but who knows until I get a scope mounted up and go out and shoot. Thanks for the reply.

Ultimak makes a rail for the S12.

I will have to check it out but I think the new Saiga front site that is pressed in not screwed is a problem with those rails and it makes the installation a job for a professional (requires grinding the front site down and drilling a hole). Though I could probably do it myself I am going to try the side mount first as it appears to be a quality piece, probably the best finished piece I ever have seen from Leapers.

Good luck. I've not been impressed with the side-mount system, for various reasons. However, for a shotgun, it may well be more than adequate.

That is my hope anyway, if not I will have the forward rail installed and will have it installed eventually when they come out with a better solution for the new Saiga 12's.
