Just brought home my newest purchase, Smith & Wesson Model 22-4 Thunder Ranch in .45 ACP.
This will partner up nicely with my S&W M21 Thunder Ranch in .44 Special.
I love N frame smiths, This one will enter my every day open carry rotation with my M21 and 1911.
And now... because I know everyone likes pictures...

S-t-y-l-e.

Fine taste, Jim.

What .45 load(s) are you carrying?

The .45s are Georgia Arms 185 gr HPs, they are the carry rounds for my wifes 1911 compact.
I am going to keep it stoked with some of these... in acp. :D

You say you open carry your N Frame --- what make and model holster do you use?

I have a Galco Silhouette high ride holster for my N Frame, but the 4" barrel sticks out of the bottom of the holster and I've decided I don't like that as I'm always afraid I'm going to mess up the front sight, since it's not protected by the holster.

Thanks in advance!!

I carry in a Galco Silhouette also, if you dont like the barrel exposed, look at the Galco Fletch... it is the same as the Silhouette with a covered barrel.

MUCH obliged, that looks like the type of holster I'm thinking of. I looked on the Galco site, however, and it doesn't appear that they make that holster for N Frame Smith and Wessons and/or the model that I have (625).

At one point they made it, I guess it was discontinued :(

my 22-4 a few years back and absolutely love it as a HD and range gun-even concealed carry in the winter.I did replace the stock grips with Pachmayrs-just a matter of personal comfort shooting-everyone is different-mine shoots a little low,so I just compensate with a slightly high misalignment on the sights. The action smoothed out over the first few thousand rounds,to where you would think it had been tuned, but it hasn't.
I never use the ILS so I just don't think about it.
Enjoy your new piece!!:D

I went to the range this morning, it was around 5 degrees and I was shivering too much for good sight alignment and my hands were numb.
I put 6 cyls thru it just to see how it felt.
I do believe this is the softest shooting .45 I have shot.
When it is warmer I will go with my favorite hand loads and see what I need to do to shoot POA with it.
So far, I am a happy camper with my purchase.

I really want one of those for ESR in IDPA. I'll have to remove the lock of course, but I'm a fan of fixed sight revolvers, so the choices are limited anyway.

Keep us up to date on how it does!

FoMoGo, have you come up with a way to plug the lock hole? Could you post some post-lock pics for us? If not, would you mind just sending me some? I'd like to see how it turns out.

Being one of those people who has personally experienced a S&W IL failure, I don't have any desire to own one with the lock still in it.

I really am thinking my next purchase will be a TR 22 if I can find one, if not, then the "Classic" 22. That 21 looks interesting also, but for me it would involve hand loading another chambering, and I'm not sure what I would use it for. I have a planned use for the model 22.

I dont go as far as some when dealing with the IL.
I remove the flag, which is the part that locks it and could possibly cause a jam.
5 minutes from holster to holster.
Only downside is that it leaves a slight gap to the side of the hammer.
I dont have the skill for plugging the hole and making it look nice.
I tend to buy my guns on the cheap, so paying someone to make the hole disappear would drive the cost back up and make it less attractive to me.
Supposedly there is someone on the smith forum who has successfully plugged the hole and made it look good tho.

Great looking pair.
There is a video on the S&W forum dealing with the IL removal and making a plug on a step by step basis, if one was so inclined.

I've been eyeing one of those for a while now. I can't decide between it and the Lew Horton M25. I prefer the sights of the M25 but the barrel shape and length of the M22.

I have decided that at the distance I use my pistols, and that I can load for them... I MUCH prefer the fixed sights.
I have decided that I am going to round up the parts and put together a fixed sight big bore N frame snubby.

I agree about fixed sights, but I feel like I get faster sight picture with the adjustable ones. It would be nice to have fixed sights that are the same size as the adjustable ones.

Very nice looking revolver you have there. I wish I could bring myself to buy a few of the newer revolvers S&W has come out with. The newly released M27 interests me.

I refuse to let an easily remedied thing such as the lock, or the companies political stance... I only buy secondhand... stop me from enjoying a fine revolver.
I have owned a M27-2 and a 629-1... and these 2 are as good or better for accuracy and "feel".
